Fave stetch of spring in garden
Cool damp weather has all the greens popping.

Well, as I said a few days ago, as an experiment I stopped cutting off the flower stalks of the very mature rhubarb I have and this is the result. It's teeming with hover flies and other small flying insects that I could not identify. of a sort!

A 6 foot by 12 foot bed of rhubarb plants with numerous flower stalks in full bloom. Green leaves, white flowers, all buzzing with insect life. Green grass, apple trees and a house in background. Partly cloudy skies. Flowers are made up of numerous tiny florets, such as you might find on lilacs, except white and having no scent that I could detect.

    Met these excellent flowers on our walk yesterday. A lovely, purple thistle, and some bright yellow irises.

    We've just passed in the Latvian tradition- all based on the Cross-quarter day between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice.
    In the Latvian division of the year, this marks the beginning of the

    A whitish Crocus flower generousy veined with purple, and bright orange sexy parts. A tiny dark wild bee has just climbed out of the centre, and is at the top of a petal, some pollen grains clinging.     We see the 'back' top of a honeybee with wings spread, more or less vertically perched on a pussywillow which is partly still silvery fuzziness and at one end shows pink unopened pollen cases with a few stamens open at top. The catkin is on an erect red-brown smooth willow stem. Background pinkish blur of more stems.
    Large bumblebee queen pale gold with black head, legs, 'shoulder' spot and black band toward 'tail' with an orange band below that. She's carrying an orange clump of pollen and hovering in front of several pink-purple sort of trumpet shaped flowers, growing from just opened palmate foliage above the flowers.
