I've been staying up too late reading the second book in the 3 Body series.

Although the concepts in the first book are epic, the second book feels more action-packed and exciting. It's not all talking characters, but stuff is happening. It makes me want to keep reading to find out more.

Could the planetary system in "3 Body Problem" — a system where the stars are so close in their orbits that their motion becomes random — exist? Peter Watson, emeritus professor of physics at Carleton University, writes for @TheConversationUS about chaotic systems and how stochastic problems are like drunk people trying to get around. "You cannot predict where the next step will take him, but you can say that he will eventually reach the door." Article contains spoilers for Netflix's "3 Body Problem."

I wish they’d make the sequels to the OG Three Body. Because it was brilliant! They stayed true to the book. I can’t comment on acting though, this was the first time I watched anything Chinese.
Anyway if you get the chance, go watch it. It’s on Prime video (in USA). Highly recommend

The reaction on Chinese social media to Netflix's adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" has been mixed, but Vox's Aja Romano argues that depictions of nationalistic outrage are probably exaggerations. She unpacks the response to this adaptation, the book trilogy, and Tencent's "Three Body," and says this time around, the problem is Netflix, not Chinese viewers.

"Dune," "Foundation" and "The Three Body Problem" were all supposedly unfilmable, and yet here we are. With that in mind, the A.V. Club's William Hughes writes about other sci-fi novels that deserve their shot at the big screen, including "The Caves Of Steel" by Isaac Asimov and Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Left Hand Of Darkness." Tell us in the comments which classic science-fiction stories you'd love to see on film or TV — and if there are any existing adaptations you think shouldn't have been made.

I've completely forgotten about Netflix's adaptation of the Chinese novel the Three-body Problem, which premiered last March 21st.

    • Only 8 episodes with a total of 42 minutes according to Trakt.

So, yeah, let's dig in so we can compare it with Tencent's adaptation that aired around the same time a year ago (which was longer and epic).

is abuzz on Netflix. Fans of the books are saying it's a cool show, but it runs a bit fast and underestimates the audience – The Chinese show is better.

Here's the excellent news: Tencent is offering the Chinese show on YouTube free of charge!

So that's on my viewing list.

@arstechnica note that there is a 100% successful, excellent Chinese language/English subtitled adaptation made by Tencent that is available for free on YT. The Netflix show might be ok, or it might be a disaster, but if you like the book this is a very nice watch

I watched the excellent Chinese-produced Three Body Problem this spring and now hear that Netflix will release the Game of Thrones/Brad Pitt produced version in January.

The original famous sci-fi novel series are complex philosophical meditations on time, history and physics.

Glad more of the world will be able to learn about its genius soon… and read the books!
