"Baby Reindeer" is a massive hit for Netflix, and its creator and star, Richard Gadd, is now grappling with fame, a loss of anonymity, and criticisms that he failed to protect the identity of his alleged stalker. He talked to the Hollywood Reporter about how he became a performer, his early failures, and how he feels about internet sleuths. Have you watched the series? What did you think?

I watched The Outfit on last night, which was a surprisingly good little crime thriller film which felt more like a stage play.

However, one thing stuck with me. The protagonist asked, "A man walks through your door, what about him can you observe? Is he timid, hunched over like a midday clock?"

What's with the midday clock thing? I honestly can't work out what it's supposed to mean?

I've been meaning to cut down my power usage without disrupting my lifestyle too much, the first thought is for me to "decommission" my HTPC which I keep running all day, asleep at best, just so it's ready for me when I want to sleep and need it to watch (so I can get to sleep lol).

The "easiest" replacement is get an based computer to take over its job. My first thought it should run on just bcos I'm most familiar with it and it's an open ecosystem so I should be able to do a ton of things w it - but I only have a Pi 4 and that thing honestly sucks at streaming so nope. Tried on it to get it running TV and while at first it seemed great, it ended up being quite a hassle and a mess so I ditched that.

Then my dad asked me to get an Android TV box/stick for his TV, and I got him the Mi Box S (2nd gen). After I set it up and used it for a bit, I honestly kinda liked it. Tried , , , etc. and they all ran great. The only downside I thought to this option is that I won't be able to watch YouTube with adblockers like I could with something like on a desktop.

THEN I quickly discovered the existence of and GOD what a lifesaver it's been. It works just like the official YouTube client with all the pages and algos you're familiar with when you've authenticated, it blocks YouTube ads, but also it supports right out of the box without needing to self-host or wtv so it could even block sponsor segments in video if you want. Even has some nice accessibility options too like changing the subtitle colours, size, and positioning which is great for me who watches vids in bed w no audio.

This rant ended up being very long unnecessarily lol but all in all, that removed the only dealbreaker for me on getting and using said TV box for myself - so I did and have been using for abt a week now. The box turns itself and my TV off automatically after 30 mins of inactivity and I can easily turn the box and the TV back on using just my remote which is nice. Idek what'd I need the HTPC for anymore honestly since I already have a to take over its job gaming wise much, much earlier.

The rating of 's continues to plummet in TMDB, IMDB, Trakt, MyDramaList, thanks to the unrelated English title, & incorrect marketing.

They should've translated the Japanese/Korean titles instead, which set the correct expectations.

Watched "Laapata Ladies" on Netflix tonight. Really funny, gentle Hollywood satire with great acting and writing. Highly recommended!

had devolved to rerun of old or b movies, weird low-budget sci-fi and uninteresting in-house series that get cancelled after the first season. The selection was especially bad in Finland, much worse than in other regions. The price hikes weren't the actual straw that broke the camel's back here, but it did not help either. Finally pulled the trigger, should have done so years ago.

Could the planetary system in "3 Body Problem" — a system where the stars are so close in their orbits that their motion becomes random — exist? Peter Watson, emeritus professor of physics at Carleton University, writes for @TheConversationUS about chaotic systems and how stochastic problems are like drunk people trying to get around. "You cannot predict where the next step will take him, but you can say that he will eventually reach the door." Article contains spoilers for Netflix's "3 Body Problem."

According to a survey of 1,000 U.S. streaming users, nearly one in four respondents say Netflix has gotten worse over the past year. That same group said it was still the overall favorite streamer. Its subscriber numbers are growing too — by the end of March 2024 it had 270 million around the world. Here's more from @IndieWire. What's your opinion on Netflix? Tell us in the comments which streaming service offers the most bang for your buck.

Did Netflix use generative AI images to depict a real person in a true-crime documentary? If so, Futurism writes, “This is tinkering with the fabric of reality itself to manipulate a true story that actually happened.” https://flip.it/kDe-sN

The BBC’s Laura Martin is calling Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” 2024’s “most harrowing TV show.” Created by Scottish comic Richard Gadd, the plot is based on Gadd’s own stalking ordeal. “With the audience subconsciously primed to expect one thing, when people actually saw the show, it winded them like a gut-punch,” Martin writes. Read more in her article but be warned: It contains spoilers throughout, as well as references to sexual assault. https://flip.it/lHRZBp

Netflix has announced its profits for the first quarter of 2024, and let’s just say, the crackdown on password sharing has done its job.

The streaming giant reported it had added 9.3 million customers to its user base in the first three months of the year, taking its total number of subscribers to almost 270 million. Unsurprisingly, those figures showed on Netflix’s bottom line too, with profits that jumped to $2.3 billion.

However, in a move that the BBC says has “ruffled some feathers” of analysts in the U.S., the company announced it will stop sharing subscriber numbers in 2025, adding that it has become “just one component of our growth.”

Netflix is doing the same as future user growth looks limited, but it brings pushes ads and continues raising prices.

Welp.

China's Tencent version is still far superior.

The Netflix version whacks you over the head and yells, "Do you get it?? Do you get it??"

Tencent's version was poetic compared to Netflix's.

There's little nuance, gravitas, depth. Ye Wenjie's character was butchered beyond repair 🥴☠️

That's the most unforgiveable of all.

The reaction on Chinese social media to Netflix's adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" has been mixed, but Vox's Aja Romano argues that depictions of nationalistic outrage are probably exaggerations. She unpacks the response to this adaptation, the book trilogy, and Tencent's "Three Body," and says this time around, the problem is Netflix, not Chinese viewers.

File this under "things we never knew we wanted until we discovered we couldn't have them." David Lynch pitched an animated project called "Snootworld" to Netflix, but was rejected. He started working on the script 20 years ago with Caroline Thompson, writer of "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Edward Scissorhands" and 1991's "The Addams Family." Here's what the pair told Deadline.
