my dad is looking for more historical cdramas to watch, and I told him I'd see if I could find some recs for him.

he's looking for cdramas that are available to watch free online (eg on viki), he prefers historicals, he enjoys some fighting, and previous shows he's enjoyed include The Untamed, Nirvana in Fire, Imperial Coroner, and Who Rules the World.

For those of you who watch more tv than me, what would you suggest?

When we posted about "Jaws" yesterday, it prompted a discussion in the comments about movie adaptations that were superior to the books — Stephen King's "The Shawshank Redemption" and Robert Nathan's "The Bishop's Wife" came up, with @PeteZ describing the latter as "a slog that I DNF." TV Guide has compiled this list of book-to-screen adaptations for 2024, including "Dune Part Two" and "Wicked." Tell us in the comments if you're looking forward to any of these — or if there's a movie you think was remarkably better than the book.

A love letter to Auckland’s small but mighty inner-city Pasifika community

Still Here is the latest all-female Pasifika production which celebrates the small but mighty community of inner-city who have remained despite decades of rampant gentrification.

With four episodes lasting 15-20mins long, Still Here weaves intergenerational stories of Pasifika families, community, and culture dispelling the myth that “all the Islanders have left”.

@Hello57 One exception, "Lang Ya Bang 琅琊榜" by Hai Yan (Nirvana In Fire). The novel is exquisitely written full of idioms and a suspenseful and captivating story. It was made into a very popular 54 episodes long, the author being also the screenwriter.

@WildWalker Prior to , Hu Ge turned down the ML role and took the 2nd lead role in the Sound Of The Desert, because he wanted to play the disabled and sickly character of Mo Xun. I believe it's this role that prepared him to be the amazing beloved Mei Chang Su in Nirvana In Fire.
