Hey.

I’m Dan. A 36 year old father of two who doesn’t have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.

Thank you.

I think I saw a show 20 or so years ago that tried to debunk this and obviously either they messed up, or I wasn't paying attention.

(The show was called Brainiac).

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

You're right. But in the interest of no stupid questions I thought I'd ask anyway, because...you know, what if?.

And thanks for the grammar lesson, I didn't ask for that one but I'll take it on board.

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I mean it was called Brainiac and it did have John Tickle walking on top of a pool of custard. Are you suggesting I was wrong to use that as my foundation for all knowledge??

Oneeightnine OP ,

Disney+ UK for certain. I'm not sure how it works out across other regions but I saw a Tiktok that said it was available worldwide.

I've stopped looking at my notifications on Reddit, it's just too anxiety inducing for me. Thankfully I've not had that same problem here, although I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

Hope you feel better.

Son broke my favourite mug. And he then threw my phone at my wrist, which hit my watch and scratched the phone screen. Yeah, its been a fun one.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Turned 2 a few weeks back. I think we're entering, or have just entered the terrible twos. Fun fun fun.

Joking aside, the scene where Tywin schools Joff on how no true king needs to say that he's a king is peak GoT. Absolutely incredible writing, acting and production from all involved.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I mean, is this in real time because I won't lie, I bet there's an awful lot of 'boring' mixed in with all the amazing moments.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I dunno, I could spend a good long while playing nothing but Football Manager if I didn't have to worry about being anywhere else.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Maybe I could use that time to watch The West Wing? I've heard nothing but good things about it but...who's got the time.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I think Farrell suffered a similar sort of thing as Brad Pitt did in the 90s in that he's super attractive...oh and he was in that bad Daredevil movie. Aside from that I can't remember him ever being the reason a movie was bad, and whenever I see him he's absolutely fantastic.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Won't lie. Having a second was never something I expected to happen. I'm not sure either of us were ready for it and it's absolutely gutted our sense of self, our relationship and our overall level of happiness.

That said we both absolutely love our two kids. We wouldn't be without them and they make our lives so much more......full. It's amazing to watch them play together, and to watch my eldest show genuine care for another human, and to watch my youngest learn and mimic his big sister.

It's not been easy. I think we'd both admit that we've struggled with the transition from 1 to 2 in ways we never did form 0 to 1, and our youngest has been significantly more challenging than our eldest was, but even with that, he's an absolute light in my world.

Is it considered a staycation if you get a caravan for a week? Or is that below the Guardian?

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Don't know about how it is in the US, but in the UK the idea of people rushing to finish their transaction fills me with dread. I've worked in a supermarket with self service and the general public really struggles with them.

Oneeightnine ,

Firstly, Chorley.

Secondly, I should rewatch Phoenix Nights. It's been like twenty years, it's time.

As for where I'm from? Walkers Crisps and Pork Pies.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Bingo!

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

It was the only of my three cars that hasn't been totalled by a driver not paying attention when driving past it.

Yup. Two cars have been written off whilst parked down my street inside two years. Love it!

Don't set yourself alight to keep yourself warm. Not always easy, but it is something I believe. You can only do so much if someone isn't willing to help themself.

Anyone else considering spoiling their ballot in the next election?

Don't get me wrong, I will probably cave at the last minute and vote SNP again for a number of reasons. Mostly, being supportive of a number of their progressive policies that I have benefited from over the years, and also because my constituency is a two horse race between them and the Tories who I will never vote for. Though...

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Firstly, I upvoted the post because I'd like to see more discussion in this community rather than mere news.

As for your idea about spoiling your ballot. I'm not sure I understand the point of spoiling if you yourself would admit that you'd happily vote Green. Vote Green (if possible).

A sudden uptick in votes for other parties might do more to get the bigger parties to take notice then drawing a dick on your ballot paper.

@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I'm a Labour member and I don't want to see them get this sort of majority. There needs to be some sort of functioning opposition to keep them honest and to serve as a threat that the good times won't last forever.

@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

The last game that truly gave me the feeling you described is Lies of P. It was my favourite game of 2023 and the 60 or so hours I put into beating it were very well spent.

I don't for one second doubt that there's some serious problems with Ofsted and how they conduct their inspections. I do however wonder if those being inspected are in the best position to decide if we need to blow it up.

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Nah I'm fairly sure it's the fact that I live with two people who spend most of their time sticking their filthy little hands in and onto things that have previously been touched by other, equally as filthy little hands.

Kids are disgusting.

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Based on these comments it's absolutely Long-Covid. I mean, I've never had COVID before, and I've got two very young children who spread disease like you wouldn't believe....but it's definitely Long-Covid.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Definitely spending the day with my young children, going to a soft-play and then going out for a lunch filled with 'no no no don't throw that' before we return home for a fun evening of 'daaaaaaady, daaaaaaaady' entirely on my own in total silence apart from the sound of my TV with a videogame on, a fresh cup of tea in my mug and maybe a takeaway pizza on the way.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I'm sure social media is having an effect on our kids. I'm also sure they're more tuned into the state of the world than I was when I was a teenager, and they see just how utterly broken everything is.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Prefer digital because space is a factor in my house. I love the idea of physical, and I'll usually go that way for art or reference books. However paperback equivalent I'm always going digital.

Although if I really love a book I'll always look to add it to my bookshelf at some point.

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Might also explain why Cricket is so popular. Obviously it still requires a fair amount of physical exertion but it's definitely a bit more laid back than something like Rugby.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I've only seen one or two WSL games on TV but I'm always happy to see more sport content on Lemmy so good luck.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I can see both arguments for and against voting for a third party. Ultimately it's your call and you're gonna do what you're gonna do. I do think it's a sign of a deeply broken system when people can legitimately think that casting your vote for another candidate is a waste though.

I'm in the UK and whilst it's not exactly the same an awful lot of people will say that a vote for anyone that isn't Labour is a vote for the Big Bad Tories. And whilst I do agree that it probably doesn't help get rid of the Tories it's also a pretty bad indictment of how broken the electoral system is.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

I also think this changes depending on the job you're going for. There's absolutely no reason I'd try to be funny or interesting on my entry-level order picker job. Assuming they even bother to look at my CV they're mainly looking to see if I've got any work history.

If I'm applying for something creative, or maybe something that requires a bit of personality I'm sure it'd go over better... although even that is a double-edged sword.

Oneeightnine OP ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Totally with you. I'd do away with the monarchy in a heartbeat if I could..but I'll never cheer on someone going through a rough time in this way. Hope he makes a full recovery, same with Princess Katherine.
