I just unstickied it from the Blahaj side for you

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Either that, or you create an account on the communities home instance and give it mod privileges too, and that way you won't ever get caught short by federation issues, blocking etc.

Shouldn't you be taking pictures of birds though, haha.

Soon! It's Friday evening here, but I'll be out again this weekend :)

So people remain excluded from property ownership, but hey, at least the economy will be ok

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Sorry, I was being a bit tongue in cheek there. The economy will continue to be shit for people who struggle to afford home ownership whether or not they can use superannuation to help get their foot in the door.

ada , (edited )
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Sure, but by the time those solutions are in place, another generation of people will have been denied the chance to own property, which has generational consequences on economic and educational outcomes for those families.

The answer is short term relief combined with long term change. Denial of short term relief because of hypothetical long term strategies that aren't going to be implemented helps no one.

You could take the 1 trillion dollars it would cost the Australia government and spend it on any number of things to make ownership easier.

That's true. The issue is, they're not going to implement any of those ideas...

So people who can't enter the housing market remain fucked over, because the imperfect ideas that might actually get off the ground get set aside in favour of better ideas that will never see the light of day.

You are working on undoing a lifetime of negative indoctrination and internalised shame about yourself. Finally knowing who you are, claiming ownership of yourself and forging the life you want is a powerful and amazing experience, but it doesn't undo that previous lifetime of experience overnight.

It's going to take time to work through the conflicting and sometimes contradictory feelings. The best thing you can do is give yourself permission to work through it. Don't beat yourself up or blame yourself for those moments, because they're not your fault, they're the end result of a lifetime of negativity targeting folk like us, and you're walking the path towards undoing that negativity. But it takes time. Give yourself permission to take that time to work through it

Officially Coming out to Lemmy, And Looking to Make a Community for Help with Trans Voices ( files.catbox.moe )

Hi! This is an older pic of me. I think it was from around 2013 with a bad cell camera and a silly makeup app. Weirdly, it is still the best one I've got of myself even after having fully transitioned shortly after the pic was taken. Anyway, my biggest dysphoria is with my voice. I've spent over a decade on make it "pass". I'd...

You're more than welcome to create a community on blahaj.zone if you like. You'd need an account here, but you can create it, create the community, mod your main account, and do all of the maintenance/management from your main account

Of, you could set it up on your current instance, and let people know about it.

Whatever you do, I think it's a good idea to get a voice training community up and running!

@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Blahaj zone doesn't do downvotes, so that side of being visible on /all is a non issue. The only thing that really seems to be an issue is that we will get the odd post intended specifically for members of the community that get visibility in /all, and a bunch of non helpful/irrelevant replies.

I think it would be nice to be able to make some posts "community members only", but other than that, I generally think communities are helped by the increased of exposure that comes from /all

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Ideally, it wouldn't be either of those things.

Trans communities for example, Closeted trans folk benefit from people being able to see trans communities and browse them, and just lurk before they post or before they're ready to join a private community.

Yet at the same time, sometimes, members have questions that really only other trans people can answer. And there is no problem with other folk seeing it or even engaging with the content, but once it hits all, the ratio of useful answers goes down. So being able to just stop some posts from hitting all, without otherwise locking them down would be a nice option

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Not sure. I've recently moved over to photon though, as it's more feature rich than alexandrite, and almost as nice to look at

So, the things I appreciate as an admin are

a) Make sure you state whether it's simply a matter of breaking community rules, or whether it needs an admins attention. As it stands now, admins see all reports made for all communities on our instances, which can be a lot. I leave reports for communities that I don't moderate, but they then sit around until a moderator actions them. And the large incoming volume, plus the older ones hanging around can make it hard to tell at a glance which ones require an admins eyes.

b) If it's not immediately obvious from the reported post, tell us where to find the context we need to see why the post is a problem. "Look at posters history" / "Will make sense if you read the previous post" etc.

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It's helpful. The issue is the moderation with mass removal of content doesn't always federate in ways that are obvious. And it was worse with older versions of lemmy.

Report it, and at least your instance admins can remove it from your instance

ada OP ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

This camera has a "bird detection mode" that spots them and gets the focus right on their eye! It's amazing. It makes it possible to catch them on the wing.

It also has a "pro shooting" mode that captures in to a buffer as long as you half hold the shutter down, and then dumps the buffer to the card when you do a full press. Which means that you can use it to capture moments that require exact timing!

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services ( www.theguardian.com )

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

Before Musk, Twitters advertising was driven by engagement, and engagement was driven by encountering things that made you angry. So they were slow to respond to anything but the most egregious cases of hatred and bigotry.

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It doesn't block them though does it? My understanding is that it simply filters them so that you don't see them anymore. They're still there doing their thing though.

Got permanent ban in r/LGBT and when i asked why I got a 3 day ban for promoting hate. ( lemmy.world )

This was my conment on a post saying that pregnant people should always be used instead of pregnant women. My comment was under someone saying vitamins for pregnant women should say vitamins for pregnant people. I have a trans son and many trans friends. My comment was not promoting hate! Fucking reddit mods

ada ,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

And this is why you were banned. You posted bullshit. And when trans people explain why it's a problem, you tell them that no, actually, they're wrong, and that you, the person who isn't trans, knows how they should feel.
