He's right-wing, but not the fascist kind of right-wing. He's the kind that just doesn't care about anything but himself and because he's doing alright, the people below him can get stuffed.
Children are long-term costs and sometimes life happens. You could lose your job, a cost-of-living crisis could hit, or your relationship fall apart and mean there's only one income now (this is the reason I grew up in poverty).
Besides, should we really just let some children grow up cold and hungry for the crime of being born to 'irresponsible' parents?
I wouldn't say Mr House is meritocracy, he even admits to being an autocrat. I remember watching this great video on how Mr House is basically Singapore.

In response to Bray’s toot, Evan Prodromou — one of the creators of ActivityPub, who is currently writing an O’Reilly book about the protocol — noted that this “is also the argument for using the ActivityPub API.” He described the API as “an open, extensible API that can handle any kind of activity type — not...
“ActivityPub’s API is how client applications interact with the data on a user’s main account server. It lets the user read data on the same or other servers, and it lets them create activities and other kinds of objects on that server that get shared (under the user’s control) with the rest of the world.”
I can't see how Apub's C2S API can realistically be implemented. It's fairly light on details and if I'm understanding it correctly the only standard way to get activity from the server is to pull from an actor's inbox, which has to be an OrderedCollection of all the activity the actor has received (likes, notifications, posts, the lot). This shifts a lot of the work to clients which, apart from being being very classist, is very limiting for implementations.
Lollypop, it's a bit dated in terms of design for a GNOME app but it has all the features you could want. Can't comment on playlists though, I have never used playlists and honestly don't get the point of them.
subscriber numbers only refer to subscribers on the local instance
This was only true for remote communitites, home instances would always report the total subs across all instances. It was also changed in 0.19, now all instances report the true total.
Cain appreciated the performances and storytelling, but singled out how the show nailed the Fallout "vibe" as its biggest achievement. "I was just looking at all the props," he said of one scene. I really enjoyed the show, it was good. I just wish it didn't take place in California. I hate that Bethesda's idea of Fallout is a wasteland in never-ending strife, one that can never move past the scrappy survivor stage of the post-apocalypse.
Oh, you're right, I misinterpreted the article. Well, this seems pretty pointless then, who cares if the explodey bit is 'sovereign' if we can't get it where we need it.
Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do if the server goes down. I’d suggest setting up the communities on another instance and try to get people to migrate to the new one, like what !android did.
Lemmy’s upvotes are same thing as likes, and downvotes are dislikes. This is kinda hard to tell because Mastodon doesn’t federate likes, so Lemmy posts will always show up as having no favourites.
This is just pure defeatism and an excuse to not put in any of the hard work needed to make things better. If this was true, the right-wing ruling class wouldn’t spend billions on trying to influence your opinions and fostering this exact type of hopelessness.
