I missed them, of course.
They are set to return tonight but probably not as good.

40 years later, a game for the ZX Spectrum will be once again broadcast over FM radio ( www.racunalniski-muzej.si )

There were times when Sinclair ZX Spectrum games were copied over the radio waves across Slovenia. Radio Študent broadcast screeching, beeping and whining, which we recorded on tape and played a game a few hours later. Those times are long gone, but we can take a walk through the past today. Radio Študent, which is celebrating...

What is the mystery Roman object found on hill in Norton Disney? ( www.bbc.co.uk )

A mysterious Roman artefact dug up in Lincolnshire has left experts baffled as to what it is. Found during an amateur archaeological dig in Norton Disney - where Walt Disney's ancestors hailed from - the 12-sided object has prompted fantastical suggestions as to its use.

Morrisons used to do "buy as many eggs as you like". It was ace! I haven't been in there for a while so don't know if they've stopped. But basically you could take a box and take as many eggs as you liked.

They were near the fruit and veg rather than with the other eggs (in Bedford, anyway).

Hopefully they're still doing this.

RATW is ace! I'm constantly shouting, "you haven't got time for that, you're in a race!" at the screen. Pissing about in a national park for two days, what are you doing?!

The 3DS had backward compatibility with physical DS games.
The Wii U had backward compatibility with Wii games (the Wii could also play GameCube games).
No surprises here - especially if they are going to call it "Switch 2" I'd have been surprised if it wasn't compatible.

3DS cartridges had an extra notch on them to stop them being inserted into a DS. Probably we'll get something similar here or there will be some software mechanism to stop attempts to run the new games on the old system.

i_am_not_a_robot ,
@i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk avatar

True, but the Switch was a big rethink so retaining backwards compatibility would have been tricky.

Mum's shock as sex toy, knickers and lube left near son's grave in Doncaster cemetery ( www.nationalworld.com )

A grieving mum has spoken of her shock after finding a sex toy, knickers and lube dumped near to her son’s grave in a Doncaster cemetery. The woman, who has asked not to be named, says she discovered the items close to headstones in Doncaster’s Rose Hill Cemetery – and decided to remove them to avoid upsetting other...

I'd love to get a job at one of these display board companies (or the local IT if they do it themselves), and tell them I can save them thousands.

A Pi Zero 2W, TFTP boot, you've saved masses of hardware cost and saved yourself a Windows licence.

Replicate that for all the displays over all the stores, done.

Yeah, same. I set it up as it looked like the best way to control my inverter - I wanted to set it to charge from the grid when electricity was free, and discharge during saving sessions without having to do it manually. I then expanded to trying to calculate how much charge I needed overnight in cheap rate based on the solar forecast for the next day...

Anyway, I now have everything on it and keep thinking of things to add.

END-OF-LIFE FOR Z80 CPU AND PERIPHERALS ANNOUNCED ( hackaday.com )

What this effectively means is that after just under 48 years since its launch in 1976, the Zilog Z80 will no longer be available for sale as discrete components, which is likely to primarily impact hobbyists and people who are trying to keep retro systems going. This does not mean that it’s the end of the road for Z80,...

I don't know what a shield TV is, but I quite like the Roku streaming sticks. They work flawlessly for me, and you can cast to them from another device.

Looks like that was just credential stuffing, though, not an actual vulnerability. Unique passwords and 2FA are enough to stop your account being compromised. They've been good enough to refund anything spent as a result of this. There have been far worse breaches and less reasonable companies, although I understand any concern after this sort of thing is reported.

i_am_not_a_robot ,
@i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk avatar

This is a legitimate concern.

I don't think I've ever used Dear to start an email; always Hi for as long as I remember.

I don't like To, it always seems like a command rather than a greeting. I write it on cards and stuff but it always leaves a niggling feeling of wrongness.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing which worries me. I suppose if it's a recipe which doesn't need precise measurements it doesn't matter.

Not quite the same as Stones and Kilogrammes are both units of weight. Using cups is like weighing somebody using those luggage size baskets in the airport.

I'm amazed they are that uncommon. Here (UK) you can walk into a supermarket and pick them up for less than £20.

Depends what it is. In this instance I was buying cups of fruit, how many cups are there to a punnet? I already have the weight on the packaging, so if I know the weight I need it's much easier.

i_am_not_a_robot OP ,
@i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk avatar

If it calls for 200g of aubergine, then you can weigh that at the shop... It's more convenient at that end, and you can get the right amount.

Depends how many sugars. At least three heaped teaspoons should qualify, two is borderline.

I turned it off after a few seconds because it was in French.
