Craving for miki bihon, specifically Mann Hann's. Reminds me of the one from Binondo my mom used to bring home after work.

Craving satisfied!

This isn't from Mann Hann, but this hits the spot as well.

On a related note: I'm not a fan of those foreign vloggers who are just cultural panderers. They're so disingenuous, it's annoying.

Meanwhile, my husband and I stumbled upon this hilarious dude who's very candid and straightforward. He's Japanese and has lived here for a few years, so his honest reviews of Japanese restaurants/establishments in the PH are quite helpful.

Dear Filipino journalists, we don't care about yellow alerts and red alerts in the electricity grid. We don't give a shit about these terms.

We want to know if we're going to have blackouts. If so, where is it happening? And for how long?

Please do your job properly, instead of repeating what the government officials are saying.

luthien1126 ,
@luthien1126@mastodon.social avatar

@jikodesu It's okay to mention such terms as long as they're properly defined so people can easily understand what they mean.

This reminds me of the "storm surge" usage during Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Residents and grassroots level officials didn't know what it actually means, which led to confusion and, sadly, death and devastation.

Jargon should always be avoided, or at least properly explained, when disseminating information to the public. Otherwise, just save it for internal comms. 🤷‍♀️

I'm picky when it comes to fruits, which is a tragedy considering the many varieties in this tropical country where I live. My usual faves are ripe mangoes and pineapple. That's why I'm so glad to discover my love for mangosteen, which now makes it to my top three faves. 🥰

How about you? What's your top three fave fruits?

Scrumptious discovery: This grocery-bought bangus sisig (brand is Fisher Farms) makes for a tasty soft taco filling.

The savory, chunky bits were balanced by the sweet and tart sauces we topped it with: mango hazelnut jam, Dijon mustard, and caramelized onions. Perfect for no-rice meals!

(Note to self: time to switch to summery plates!)

I had high expectations for Jinwoo Chong's Flux. But two chapter in, and I still have no idea where the book is taking me.

To anyone who has read it: Is it worth ploughing through? Because I'm thinking of shelving it for now and moving on to another book.

So happy to have finally succeeded in recreating the crispy winged gyoza in Netflix's Izakaya Bottakuri! Huzzah!

Attempted this before twice using potstickers I prepared--and failed at both times (I blame the old pan). I used store-bought gyoza this time to lessen the disappointment in case I fail.

On the side: shredded bokchoy ala TuanTuan

"This is book about the dead, and the people who are left behind. It is also a personal story, written in my own voice, as a citizen of a nation I cannot recognize as my own. Done with Sequoia Nagamatsu's How High We Go in the Dark. It was a good read, though I find the last chapter a teeny weeny bit of a stretch. There's hope in each interwoven story, but I had to wade through much despair to get to it--something I was not prepared for as my first read of the year. Rating: 4/5

Now moving on to Satoshi Yagisawa's Days at the Morisaki Bookshop.

@youronlyone I don't mind hiring fresh grads for as long as they're not this problematic. I get that each generation has its own quirks, but please, no parents in interviews! 😂

This also proves how the pandemic has wreaked havoc on people's social skills. Fresh grads these days barely have any training in the real-world workplace, so they're like fish out of water. How tragic.

Don't really know much about chocolates, but I ended up researching the best -made chocolates because we needed to find something good to give relatives for our party. Tigre y Oliva was on that list, and their were in the range of our budget, so we purchased some. They're really good. 👌

Also, I didn't know there's a growing number of local artisanal chocolate brands now. If we can make chocolates this good, it's an industry that needs more support.
