In the year 1615, the Italian traveler Pietro della Valle described mummy portraits as the most exquisite sight in the world. Since then, mummy portraits have captivated the attention of scholars and the general public. The portrait of a woman named Eirene is one of the few that bear an inscription: Eirene, daughter of Silvanos, her mother is Senpnoutis. May her soul live forever before Osiris-Sokar, the great god, the Lord of Abydos. 40/50 AD.

From this week's visit in Bern, Bronze Age exhibition: the so-called gold hat from Schifferstadt (Rhineland-Palatinate). The purpose of this Bronze Age object is unknown. There are 4 known 'gold hats' from Germany and France. Their conical shape resembles a wizard’s hat, which led to speculations that the hats were worn by priests. It was also argued that they were placed on poles at ritual sites. They were also considered fertility symbols or as calendar to keep track of the stars and the sun.

For let's go to my favourite site: the temple complex of , located in the Bekaa Valley/. The breathtaking
site contains some of the largest Roman temples ever built. The so-called Bacchus temple is one of the best preserved temples of the Roman period.
Baalbek is an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1984 and one of the most amazing places I have ever been to.

I'm in awe: holding a 40,000-year-old masterpiece in your hand is something you don't get to do every day!
The amazing figurine of a woolly mammoth is carved in mammoth ivory. It will be on display at Archäologisches Landesmuseum Baden-Württemberg from Saturday.

Found in the Vogelherd cave on the Swabian Jura, south-west Germany.

And yes, I'm really, really happy 😊

The picture shows a happy archaeologist holding the mammoth figurine in her hand.
