Has anyone written about the "Techbro Mindset"? It's when complex socio-political issues are reduced to simplistic "disruptions" that never live up to their hype. Examples include the gig economy, the sharing economy, the crypto economy, and, more recently, the generative AI economy.

I keep reading that usage is way down these last few months. This is surprising to me as activity, for me at least, has been going up. Things look great to me!

Is this likely that my community (mostly tech) is doing fine or even growing but the more "consumer level" users are just leaving?

Curious if anyone has a take on this?

@scottjenson I'm probably in the same tech bubble as you. The celebs that took up residence here back in Dec. '22 have moved on to IG & Threads, or even back to Xitter. Fine by me. Anytime I peruse Threads, I'm unimpressed by the platform and impressed by the amount of celebs & news orgs happy to be there regardless.

@scottjenson FWIW the charging to 100% is much quicker than older watches. I'm used to it. I have some other issues though.

I just got 'the upgrade note' from video telling me to pay $3/month or face ads. If they had just raised the price of Prime, I'd likely just have gone with it. But this.... blackmail just feels so wrong and makes me feel powerless. I want to yell "hell no!" just on principle.

I know, this is childish, but in their greed to optimize the conversion funnel, they've destroyed their and I feel like a experiment. It feels dirty and I want nothing to do with it.

@scottjenson well they're not alone either. The whole industry is moving this way. Their clumsiness in handling the price hike just shows us that they know their product isn't top notch. But Amazon could care less because they know ppl feel they need the free shipping and easy returns.

As little as we watch Prime, I intend to just vow to watch less and read more books.
