Back in 2012, when our eldest was a baby, I decided to buy a proper camera so our photos of her would be a little nicer than what 2012 phones could produce.
I bought a Nikon #d3300, which is an entry level #DSLR and I've been using it on and off since then. I quickly bought the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX lens and it's been a great lens for everyday shots.
When you start a new hobby it's not always clear where you'll end up, and I didn't really have any thoughts on photography before buying a camera beyond the ambition to take "better photos".
But I quickly learned some thing:
I am not very good at landscape photography
I am decent at portrait photography
I don't want to carry around a huge zoom lens, the camera's big enough as it is
I don't want to (and can't afford to) spend a fortune on camera gear
This means that since 2012 I've been drifting more and more into shooting only with prime lenses, which have a fixed focal length like 35mm or 85mm.
We've updated the rules of our flagship server mastodon.social today. Most are the same with some clarifications, but one rule is new: Content created by others must be attributed, and use of AI must be disclosed. Profiles that only post AI-generated content will not be tolerated.
@Gargron What exactly is AI? Every single photo I shoot with a Google #Pixel or an #iphone has undergone extreme postproduction from the device itself. Every image that is taken by a #DSLR and then piped through #Photoshop has #AI applied to it. Where is the fine line to the zone where we need not to disclose the usage of #AI?
A really interesting little device that could reduce #ewaste...that maybe came a few years too late to actually do so. Still, "turn your #SLR into a #DSLR" is a pretty compelling value prop.
