FOSS - ensuring even new hardware stays in use when vendor-support eventually ends!

Whether or not you install GNU/Linux on it today, your new will eventually lose support. Thanks to the impressive work of project (@AsahiLinux), it will not need to end up in the landfill once it does.

As we make our five (now four) year plan more concrete, we want to come back to the high level goal and measures that help us to understand what we are doing, why, and if we are being effective.

TL;DR - We’re going to double the number of contributors who are active every week.

If you use on cloud, amazon-ec2-utils is headed your way with some helpful udev rules and tools.

Now you can manage block devices using the same "sdX" conventions used in the AWS console and API. 😉

It's on the way to for users, too! 🥳

Fedora Asahi Remix 40 coming in hot!

On top of the great work that @AsahiLinux and the Fedora Asahi SIG do, they've also worked to line up releases with the rest of Fedora, so thank you for that!

This release brings:

  • OpenGL 4.6
  • High quality audio out of the box
  • Plasma, Gnome, Server, and Minimal variants available

The Fedora Project is taking rpm-ostree and atomic systems to the next level with our bootc community initiative!

The goal is to evolve Fedora Atomic Desktops, Fedora CoreOS, and Fedora IoT to incorporate bootable containers. You will get the benefit of an atomic OS on your computer while unlocking a world of customization through the cloud native development model.

Yesterday at Red Hat Summit @jorge and @cgwalters presented to a full house to walk through the state of atomic / image-based Linux and where we can go from here.

Fedora and Red Hat are looking at what we're doing with bootable containers and are interested in carrying that forward!

Was only able to do one day at RH Summit, you can feel the energy around image-based Fedora in the air.

Gave a talk to a packed room and it was awesome to talk to people who're ready to move forward with the cloud native model.

Thanks @mattdm @carlwgeorge and others, sorry I don't have all the handles.

It's going to be a great year!

Time to formally welcome @bluebuild to the Fediverse!

This is the project that makes it easier for you to make your own custom images of Fedora Atomic Desktops.

If you've wondered how to use an atomic system while still being able to customize and tinker, this is another good place to learn more!

Also supporting with $20/month and Fedilab Android client.

What apps and/or projects are you supporting?

Would like to support as well, but there are no options (?) to subscribe or donate.

The fact that exists and provides a valuable service just proves that Atomic makes it too hard for sysadmins to customize their installs. Because what they are doing is mostly just changing which packages get installed in the base image.
