A must-read article from Anne Applebaum. It has been obvious for a while that pro-Trump social media is mostly foreign propaganda. The irony of using “America First” to sabotage America is no doubt something foreign trolls find amusing.

Fear, cynicism, nihilism, and apathy, coupled with disgust and disdain for democracy: that is what modern autocrats sell and there are far too many people falling for it.

The story about NBC this morning is NOT that they now say the insurrectionist they hired, former RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel, is not going to appear on their cable network.

The story about NBC this morning IS that the insurrectionist they hired has now appeared on their flagship Sunday news program and is using the network to spout revisionist disinformation to the American public.

The National Rifle Association, its former longtime leader, and two other officers were found to have violated basic principles of running a nonprofit.

The jury decided that "asking the to pay for lavish personal trips, flights aboard private jets and helicopters, expensive clothes and hair styling and makeup for LaPierre’s wife – all of which came up during the trial – could not be considered fair to the organization."

It's Friday time! Since I seem to have forgotten to post last week's , we'll do two questions this week, the first question and my favorite.

In the 2024 Iowa GOP caucuses, Donald Trump won 51% of the vote, and Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis split about 40%. Which very conservative candidate was the only other person to get more than 1% of the vote?

We don't have to live this way. Mass shootings are a uniquely American problem. The overwhelming majority of Americans want Congress to take action, and that starts with ending the GOP inaction. This is the time to remind your community that living this way is a choice -- and beginning to do something about the problem starts with voting Republicans out of office: https://act.indivisible.org/lte/write-letter-editor-about-republicans-blockage-assault-weapons-ban?source=mastodon&medium=directpost

Real shame.

's most recent tax return reveals dramatic declines along almost every conceivable metric: revenue, assets, member dues, lobbying, and political spending — with conversely sharp increases in legal costs and deficits.

2022 was the fourth year in a row that revenue fell, marking its weakest fundraising year since at least 2008.

Membership dues are at all-time lows. https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-nra-is-at-rock-bottomand-15-years-of-tax-filings-tell-the-story
