You're letting your heart get in the way of the mind. I got to enjoy knowing my grandparents abused my parents. My maternal side in particular revelled in spewing hate at demographics including myself and abandoning all the values they claimed to hold dear for their pentacostal magat cult. Needless to say I do not have the same issue.
Regardless. If you really care about defending people's rights, you need to be able to look people like your grandparents in the eye and say "No, you're wrong, and should suffer for it".

Some of us are the people the other side wants dead. Taking the gamble on that change is literally risking our lives. I'd much rather a broken government that won't oppress me to a functional one that will, and anyone who'd argue against that is arguing for betting my life on a positive change

I broke my system a few times, but I know what I did. Once I tried to remove mesa and everything it's a dependency for...not realizing it's part of the kernel. Another time I messed up my video drivers trying to install Optimus.
Actually a lot of my breaks can be traced to Nvidia being a shitass about supporting Linux. But I need the proprietary drivers for my editing software
