120 MEPs demand Hungary be stripped of its voting rights over Viktor Orbán's 'unacceptable' actions

A cross-party coalition of 120 Members of the European Parliament demand Hungary be stripped of its voting rights over the country's democratic backsliding and Viktor Orbán's "unacceptable" use of veto power.

@eunews Maybe just strip the whole veto thing altogether while they are at it?

Be My Guest Worker: Hungary Forced to Confront Attitudes to Immigration

Years of anti-immigration propaganda are coming back to haunt the Hungarian government as the country struggles to attract the foreign workers its economy desperately needs.

@eunews And why do I have this distinct feeling this will start to happen in The Netherlands as well.

In case you missed it, the Fediverse has an alternative to Amazon's Goodreads called BookWyrm, which is a social reading platform.

Existing Goodreads users can import their data into BookWyrm.

BookWyrm's entry on fedi.tips is now updated with common questions answered:

@feditips @bookwyrm I chose Bookwyrm as my online Bookplatform, because it is federated and non-commercial.
It has its quirks, and the database isn’t as big as Goodreads. I love adding to it tho.
But I still want to contact them to see if I can help with the UI. Lack of time holds me back.
I know this doesn’t seem a great review, but it has great potential and does what I want from it!

@feditips @bookwyrm I’ll have a look there. Haven’t used it before, but I’m sure I can manage.

@bookstodon
After watching Foundation I was curious about Asimov's Robot books.

The stories so far (I Robot and The Rest of the Robots) are quite simple and a bit crude, but they are also refreshing in their simplicity.

I see the stories as Asimov's take on the advances in robotics and computing he witnessed. It's funny in a way that the robot themes in science fiction haven't changed all that much since then.

@Liesvanrompaey @bookstodon I loved the way he designed the 3 laws of robotics and then challenged those in his stories, trying to find a way around them to get the robots to harm people.

I wish just once I could play one of the games I bought without first having to download a 40 gb file just to update a few game elements. Nobody and I mean nobody in the gaming world cares about people for whom that is like 2 days worth of data allowance.

markdevries ,
@markdevries@mstdn.social avatar

@briankrebs NASA is sending a software update to the Voyager probes. The software is 4K 18 bit words, so the patch will be even smaller.
They send it out at a rate of 16bps tho…
Just a small comparison. 😇
