Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

Apple’s Vision Pro is a bad product with an even worse vision for the future of computation.

New sales numbers prove it’s a failure, but more than that it shows the idea of tech’s inevitability is a myth. We have the collective power to stop tech that doesn’t serve us.

It seems very hard to look stupid or wrong in big-tech, at least to the busy masses. There is always some new shinier thing they can dangle to distract away from the last stupid thing, or some updated/new promise of the next thing.

Zuma is why you should never ever listen to self-proclaimed "gamers".

Back in the early '00s, they moaned and complained about casual gaming. Specifically, everything made by PopCap Games.

"Zuma is stupid," they said, "And casual games are a fad!"

21 years later, I'm still playing Zuma. It's still awesome. And I still get a thrill when I pass a stage.

@atomicpoet Oh man I had forgotten all about this game! I spent so long playing it back in the day.

In the fast-paced world of generative AI, staying ahead means moving swiftly and smartly. ⏩

That's why we've embraced Gradio, the low-code prototyping toolkit from Hugging Face, as our go-to for bringing new ideas to life. https://mzl.la/4auVulc

@mozilla

I keep seeing scary looking replies to this post coming up in my feed, basically people suggesting Mozilla wants to put AI in FF browser. Is it true? I cant see anything about it. Maybe @mozilla needs to clarify it.

I thought Mozilla was talking about supporting many of the community-driven open source AI efforts for some time. That's all I heard in the past, and this post seems to be a continuation of that. They didn't say anything about browsers as far as I heard.

Governments and CEOs tell us not to worry about rising emissions because new technologies will fix it.

On February 18, I’ll be in Auckland to explain why tech won’t save us from the climate crisis. Find out more from Tohatoha: https://www.tohatoha.org.nz/2024/02/event-tech-wont-fix-the-climate-crisis/

If you think big fines work on , think again.

Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft generated enough revenue in the past 7 days to pay off their fines for 2023.

Taking advantage of your privacy is so lucrative, that these fines are nothing more than the cost of doing business.

This shows how much power we have as users to make these guys really hurt just by not using their products or by using alternatives.

e.g.:

Healing from your own consumerism will not only make you happier, it hurts Amazon.

Meta is mostly addiction-ware. Work on your inner self and you wont need it. Again life gets better. OK Whatsapp is good.

Block ads and tracking = hurt Google.

I never use Apple. It is nice tho 😅.

Microsoft makes nothing of value. Just use Mac or Linux 😛

As a fully remote/flexible/async SW developer contractor paid by the hour, I have a different situation than most.

Personally I do not install any work apps on my phone because I could easily end up "doing work" that I don't really get paid for.

When I work, I sit down at my actual PC intentionally, I start a timer, and I bill for my time that I take doing work only.

I avoid any work that I need to respond to outside of that and I make this fact known to anyone I work with.

Cybermonk floor setup in dark mode

100% remote WFH. I also record videos, audio, drink tea and meditate here. 100% Darkmode 😎

I mainly sit on the floor, and occasionally stand, thanks to a Limber desk which easily lowers from standing to floor height. It was not easy at first but has worked wonders on my back and hips over time, vs a chair.

Links to some of the gear and software I use, on my site.

@nostupidquestions Can I post here from Mastodon?

I think its a popular but not well answered question right now.

I want to know whether I can create a post on Lemmy, by just using a mention from Mastodon.
