@GottaLaff I've been thinking we need to find clips of him speaking, like 1 minute each, in real time, where you can see his lack of focus or otherwise bizarre speech. He benefits from the tiny clips the media goes for. He rambles for minutes and the media reports on the one coherent thing that comes out.
But this isn't it. It's just not clear enough. Unless it shows teleprompter problems, in which case it's a mild punk b/c he once said Obama needed his teleprompter.
As President Biden speaks to the Morehouse College commencement ceremony in Atlanta someone is holding aloft behind him a flag of the DRCongo while one graduating student has turned his back and draped himself in the Palestinian flag.
I have finally dragged on clothes, so welcome to #ShirtCheckSunday !
I share my tee, you show me your tee/shirt/outfit, everyone looks awesome and cute, it's great.
Today's shirt is Ashenspire's Three Months to the Gutter tee, art by Hagiophobic.
They're an avant-garde red/anarchist black metal (RABM) band, and Hostile Architecture is one of my favourite albums of the last few years. Equal parts beautiful and brutal, and upholding the rule that all metal bands with saxophones are good.
If you're near London in the UK, they're playing at Desertfest at the Electric Ballroom this afternoon at 14:30.
@HauntedOwlbear sorry I could have posted a link ... but then you wouldn't have had the fun of tracking them down. They're brilliant. I saw them on the first night of the tour that the t-shirt is from. (just realised I forgot to alt text the pics... tusky edit to the rescue).
@theautisticcoach@actuallyautistic ya same as everyone else. I keep things were they are most efficient and I absolutely hate it when they get taken and not put back, to the point I have to get doubles of things and hide one of everything
@notjustbikes not only EVs, asia is absolutely styling on on everyone else in terms of mopeds as well.
Gogoro is making mopeds that are borderline scifi and have deployed a really good battery swapping system in like 10 countries, it's despicable that the EU hasn't even started working on its own battery swap standard..
Junk science. Note the term "contributes to". So, yeah, if you smoke and cook with gas, maybe there's problems.
Meanwhile, in the U.S. a staggering 40 thousand people die in auto accidents. It's not subtle. It's not "contributes to". It's visible, on the freeways every day.
Another 53000 deaths occur thanks to auto emissions per MIT.
But CA still loves its cars.
We don't need to give the right more reasons to hate the left.
@georgetakei This is now making me wonder how many store sign size dwellings we can put on an acre of land. Of course, if we were building them for people to live in that would mean they would need plumbing and electricity rather than a long extension cord to a single outlet.... But maybe we've been making this all way too complicated for a long long time!
What is supposed to be a holding room for a former president’s security has, at their own admission, become a de facto campaign HQ . . . in a government building.
Olivia Nuzzi:
The #Trump campaign has moved its operational headquarters from West Palm Beach to a holding room inside Manhattan criminal court.
@GottaLaff Cameras not allowed IN the courtroom, shouldn’t be allowed in the holding area either. For that notion, maybe not in the building. Make them stand outside with all the noise, traffic, and people like the reporters. Mr victim always crying gets more preferential treatment than anyone. #crybabyTrump#nevertrump
@GottaLaff
So stop them! Everyone is way to wussy with these traitorous f*cks. The judge was letting sycophants text during the trial. I won't even mention the many many abuses of the gag order by the Congress rats. JFC already.
Someone actually built a Chrome extension to "Hide annoying Google AI Overviews". LOL. Right now it only has 2,000 users, but I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches millions in a few months when SGE (Search Generative Experience) will be rolled out globally. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/hide-google-ai-overviews/neibhohkbmfjninidnaoacabkjonbahn Duckduckgo is also releasing similar tech using AI .
The problem is never on the tech end, assuming you wanted to make a good platform. That's probably a 400-level CS class project, especially if you're only dealing with a single library system that doesn't have multi-million-user-scale and five-nines reliability needs.
The pitfalls are 99% about the business relationships and having to pre-enshittify the system to service them-- getting the publishers to trust the platform will enforce DRM and related random shitty deals (i. e. that ebooks have to be retired after n loans, as though they wear out like a paperback). I'd expect there's virtually no trust for a new player.
What's needed is mandatory licensing. The libraries and their software dev partners decide what terms they want, they get a standard price card, and the publishers have to eat it.
There are also hosting concerns and costs, but basically, yeah. This isn't a hard technical problem. There are even pre-written dev libraries for reading epub books, like this one for Flutter.
(Source: Am software developer. Could probably write a PoC for this in a few weeks.)
I still think “richness” is more a function of wealth rather than income (although I ponder on the “wealthy” aristocracy who can’t afford to run their property).
In trying to work out why I feel this way I came across this chart - the median UK household net wealth was £300k in 2020.
There’s a lot to unpick on this I suspect.
In summary, do I consider myself rich? no; could I be? Probably.
