One of my all-time favorite wallpaper finds (LINK: https://wallhaven.cc/w/g8xlxd). The Waybar and Hyprland window borders are color sampled directly from the wallpaper itself. The other color/icon/cursor/terminal themes are listed in the fastfetch output.

I saw this voltmeter at the electronics flea market. Look at that massive probe! It looks like you need to check your back blast before using it.
Apparently it's for REALLY high voltages? Like, 3kV?

New research shows gas stove emissions contribute to 19,000 deaths annually

California is considering a law that would require warning labels on gas stoves.

https://arstechnica.com/health/2024/05/new-research-shows-gas-stove-emissions-contribute-to-19000-deaths-annually/?utm_brand=arstechnica&utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social

mmalc ,

@arstechnica
To bring a point up to top-level, for those who assert that "all people need is a hood over the stove”: It doesn’t necessarily vent very well:

"Pollutant capture efficiency (CE) ranged from <15% to >98%, varying across hoods and with airflow and burner position for each hood.”

https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/es3001079

And of course that's only if people switch them on.

I have finally dragged on clothes, so welcome to !

I share my tee, you show me your tee/shirt/outfit, everyone looks awesome and cute, it's great.

Today's shirt is Ashenspire's Three Months to the Gutter tee, art by Hagiophobic.

They're an avant-garde red/anarchist black metal (RABM) band, and Hostile Architecture is one of my favourite albums of the last few years. Equal parts beautiful and brutal, and upholding the rule that all metal bands with saxophones are good.

If you're near London in the UK, they're playing at Desertfest at the Electric Ballroom this afternoon at 14:30.

Listen to them: https://ashenspire.bandcamp.com/music

    One of the things which baffles me the most about being an adult is nobody but me thinks they are rich.

    I think it’s presumably an us vs them thing, ie people want to believe The Others are rich.

    I am not yet Rich. I have more than before but other people still have more than me.

    Rich is a club that I can one day join, but only if I beat everyone else trying to get there.

    I need to make sure that conditions are as favorable as possible for my future Rich Self.

    grumpybozo ,
    @grumpybozo@toad.social avatar

    @GossiTheDog @pasquires You’re objectively correct, if and only if you insist upon a rich/poor dichotomy.
    However, I think if one must put people into discrete boxes that way, there have to be at least 3. There’s a distinct difference between needing to labor for a paycheck and not and those of us who need to do so will mostly never feel wealthy. Those of us who have been actually poor do feel it, at least sometimes.

    The CEO-to-worker pay gap at America’s largest companies was 344-to-1 last year.

    In 1965, the ratio was 20-to-1.

    This explosion in CEO pay relative to the pay of workers isn’t because CEOs have become so much more valuable.

    They've just gamed the system to line their pockets.

    Fionas_Father ,

    @rbreich Yes.

    And this is the issue that could unite far more than half of American voters. Thus it has been disastrous to allow the right to change elections into culture wars over the least unifying details of subgroups' demands.

    Trump and social media together simply press blue America's buttons, send everyone screaming about the latest insult. And thus forget the economic justice even much of the MAGA wing believes in.

    Mengjie ,
    @Mengjie@mastodon.social avatar

    @rbreich This surge in the pay gap you point out does reflect the growing problem of income inequality in American society. The gap from 20:1 in 1965 to 344:1 last year highlights an imbalance between executive pay and the average employee that is well beyond reasonable.
