Hospitals are being forced to cut medical staff, threatening their ability to care for patients.
NHS leaders had been recruiting medical staff as part of their efforts to tackle the waiting list backlog, one of Rishi Sunak’s five pledges, but say they are now being told their priority must be to balance the books.
Unless govt funds the recent nurses and doctors pay rises in full, NHS Trusts are bound to be in deficit. The war on the NHS continues.
Before you give too much credit to Dan Poulter (MP & doctor) for abandoning the Tories to join Labour, don't forget he's been an MP for 14 years & been working as a doctor all that time.... so one might have expected him to notice the Tory engineered crisis in the NHS quite some time before now.
No, he's defecting because he can see the Tory electoral meltdown coming & wants to preserve his dignity, before returning full-time to the NHS.
To be clear, I don't blame the nurses & doctors in A&E who are encountering budget & capacity pressures that would make it difficult for anyone to do a good job.
As length of waiting times in A&E grow, so do deaths while waiting to be seen; but this is part of the crisis engineered by the Tories, not a managerial or staff training issue (which is not to say these have no impact).
@ChrisMayLA6
There's nothing wrong with the #NHS that undoing 15 years of #Tory#austerity won't fix. Just look at wait time and satisfaction data from 2009.
It's not the NHS model that's the problem, it's the #Tories
And now let's find out what's going on with with Normal Island's Nasty Party, how are they doing?
These young depressed sick malingerers are too woke, the woke doctors are signing them off sick too easily, we''ll set up corporate death panels to make the decisions instead, get these skivers back to work 😡 🤛
Alrighty then, gonna suck even more to be sick on Normal Island in the future.
Join us again next time when the Nasty Party will be taking a wrecking ball to the country while scapegoating some other distressed minority in a desperate attempt to drum up some votes from their reactionary base.
FYI, the lottery is a regressive tax disproportionately paid by the people who can least afford it, and little of the proceeds actually go to community funding.
We should fund community services by taxing the rich, not by conning working people into thinking they'll become rich.
@rbreich At work. I was in the corner shop buying a lottery ticket when a medical consultant walked in to greet me with "oh David, the lottery, the first tax on stupidity"
"It's been a bad week."
"I know, lottery ticket please."
But yes it is a tax on those least able to pay. #nhs
In the UK the Conservative Party ("Tories") has cut the NHS budget until the NHS has collapsed. Now there are loooong wait time for everything, even ambulances.
People who can afford it "go private." This sends billions to the private healthcare industry.
Private healthcare industry is the biggest donor to Conservative Party.
@pluralistic writing for @goodlawproject on why the question of NHS data is not one between Palantir & non-use, but between an approach based on profit (and data exploitation) and an already proven system (headed up by Ben Goldacre) that offers real security for patients' data.
The real Q. is how much has Palantir paid decision-makers to get on the inside track?
#Budget#UKPolitics This article by Gary Stevenson is so good, please read every word of it.
“Whatever Jeremy Hunt says, traders know the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. And they’re paid millions to bet on it.”
This is what the world is - it is run by a minute elite for a minute elite and the rest of us, the masses, the natural world, we just don’t count. It is a #TragedyOftheNonCommons (will reshare my own piece on this below 1/n)
#FollowTheMoney 🧵 25/n back to a reality most of us in the UK inhabit on a daily basis: the crumbling public sector. Found this report on NHS dentistry’s struggle for survival really very moving just now. #NHS#dentistry#UKpolitics
Here in the UK, our governments ( #ToryScum and #Labour ) have turned our national asset, the #NHS and #care system, from a high quality, caring, safe service into fodder for global private equity companies, who are suckling every drop of value from us, while being supported by the British Taxpayer.
Much of Cory Doctorow's analysis of US private equity feeding off healthcare applies to the UK too.
State of the #NHS and I say this with absolute respect. Son’s girlfriend has to go A&E last night, emergency doctor says it is acute appendicitis. Not out of the hospital until 2am, told she has kidney stones and to come back at 8.30am for a CT scan. Spends 5 hours there this morning, now told it’s her ovaries but to go away and come back in a week if the pain is still there…! Pathetic. And people wonder why so many get annoyed.
@grumpygamer
Fascinating. Thank you for sharing this. In the UK, I expect we shall see this over the next ?5 ?50 years as the NHS changes to emergency care only and private healthcare de-facto takes over non-emergency care. A for-profit company will not want to be run by doctors. This can already be observed in dentistry. I had not seen it so well described in other trades though. Thank you!
You will never peacefully resolve the issue between Zionists and Palestinians when the people in Gov are getting paid by Israel
You will never get needed money into the #NHS when ... Etc etc... by private Heath
Like wise you will never get sufficient social housing... Etc etc... when politicians are landlords and money is getting paid to them by private building companies
Get rid of vested interest lobbying, 2nd jobs etc... pay the fuckers more, but outlaw the extra incomes and corruption
Labour could axe all hereditary peers from House of Lords, reports suggest ( www.standard.co.uk )
Labour plans to axe all hereditary peers from the House of Lords, reports have suggested....
