This morning I'm discovering the music of Veronica Adane. Not sure where Veronica is from, but the cover lettering is Ethiopic, which implies singing in Amharic and being from Ethiopia or Eritrea. ¡Nice!
Fine Young Cannibals is the band I think of whenever I read music crit (about any band, album, or song) that describe #pop#music in terms of "distillation."
In terms of their career, they gave us only two studio albums, each one lasting 35 minutes with ten #songs.
The records show the band's diverse musicality, presenting a range of pop sounds but not as a catalogue of musical style, moving from one song to the next. Instead, what they offer is more of a blend. Each song feels like it comes from the same musical stock but also gives us a distinct flavour that lingers for as long as the song lasts.
I also like how they had one cover for each record. On the first was Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds," and on the second was the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love." That says a whole lot right there.
Been getting earwormed for the last few days by the lively song Kdyz Nemuzu Spat (When I Can't Sleep) by Aneta Langerova. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Actually, there's a lot right with that; I love earworms and it's a great song.
Burst into singing it while walking yesterday. I don't speak Czech, so could only sing "di-di-di" and the song title (which I'm sure I said wrong). ¡Felt so good!
I'd say we (the linux community) are working on it. It's much better than let's say 5 years ago. Quite a few mainstream distros like Fedora and Ubuntu have ARM builds, there's Armbian (Debian for ARM), Arch Linux for ARM and even Pop!_OS has a Raspberry Pi build. As you mentioned, there's Asahi Linux for Apple Silicon Macs as well as an unofficial version of Ubuntu called Ubuntu Asahi.
My childhood friend has a new band called The Night Tigers. They blend Caesar's Palace-style pop rock with Misfits-inspired lyrics! Their first release is out now, and it's right up my alley!
If I were from #Malaysia, instead of using #Mpop (which can also mean #MandoPop), I'll push for #MyPop. Noticed the play on words? “My” is the ISO two-letter ID for Malaysia; and also means “my” (mine) in English.
I have a playlist on Soundcloud of my own original rock music and I’d love for you to check it out, preferably on some good speakers, up loud. I’m really proud of this, and would love to hear what you think.
If you have “I like music” in your profile, you must listen. It’s the law!! 🫶
Are we (linux) ready for Arm devices?
Are we (linux) ready for arm devices like snapdragon elite X?...
