💥 New review by French metal zine nawakposse.com 🙏🤘. For those who don't speak French, here are some excerpts: "Operating in a death/black/thrash register, the quintet [Beyond the Pale] deliver destructive blast-beats, razor-sharp riffs and frantic rhythms consistently and, above all, ultra-efficiently.(…) Beautifully produced and packaged (…) All in all, this EP is a fine compendium of pure, controlled violence, ultra-dynamic and powerful." 👌🤘 #metal#metalmusic#review#chronique#newmusic
A book I edited was written up in the local paper.
So happy to see Shannon Bohrer's book, Judicial Soup: One Man's Wrongful Conviction and What It Means for Criminal Justice Reform, getting some media attention. This is a very relatable book on a hugely important topic. When you read it, first you'll be angry. Then you'll think, "If it can happen to that guy, it can happen to anyone."
@bookstodon My #review of All the Feels (Spoiler Alert #2) by Olivia Dade is now live! Lauren and Alex's relationship made for a fun read, but it was the themes in this novel that really make it.
And with that… I’m done with Octopath Traveler 2. I know there’s some post-final chapters epilogue story and boss, but after 80 hours, I think I’m done. I’m beat.
Score: C+
Good: Combat and graphics.
Bad: Random battles, short dungeons, 1000 boss fights, fractured story lines, & annoying party management.
@bookstodon My #review of Stars of Chaos (Sha Po Lang) Vol. 2 by priest is now live! This volume builds on both the relationship of the leads and the worldbuilding as a whole, making for a VERY entertaining read.
Another beautifully written entry into the Singing Hills cycle, but departing from the previous books' structural devices... or does it asks @chloroform_tea
"What a curious, quiet little book. Garner Hayes is a young man, working in an unnamed city as a waiter in an upscale Italian restaurant. Then he becomes aware of a beautiful dark-haired man... I readily embraced the book’s low-key quirky manner. 4 stars."
Review: Skilhunt H150 - my favorite small headlamp
The Skilhunt H150 is a small headlamp with great color quality, magnetic charging, and the ability to use both 14500 Li-ion and AA batteries. It sets a new standard in its size class.
This review, at a popular site for people interested in Japan, could serve as a guide to watching the new documentary about Japanese hostess bars. It's a new genre for me, although I have some background in journalism: https://japanned.hcommons.org/journalism
My #bookreview is brief/won't spoil, to spread good, great, & spectacular #horror#books far & wide.
💙📚 HOT DEMON BITCHES NEAR YOU from J.E. Erickson is an exuberant blast of gore & grue. The Horrors are heavy here, but balanced with deliciously devilish delights & a LOT of heart. (Lots of OTHER body parts, too.) You'll be disturbed, delighted, horrified- but also cackling. HELL, yeah! (Self-published)
@bookstodon My #review of Indian Burial Ground by Nick Medina is now live! This would be even creepier and more tense if the narrative had been arranged differently, but otherwise it's pretty awesome.
As Gods Among Men: A History of the Rich in the West – review
"In As Gods Among Men, Guido Alfani examines the history of the rich in the West from the Middle Ages to modern times, including paths to wealth, societal perceptions and their resilience against shocks."

WHEN THE DEVIL is a novelette from Emma E. Murray that packs many horrors inside of its compelling, feverish intensity. Libby's world is dark and cruel, and any peace, joy, or deliverance comes with a price. Devils abound, but sometimes the fruit they offer makes the damnation worth it. (Shortwave Publishing)
New: Laura R. Samotin's queer grimdark fantasy The Sins on Their Bones.
Set in a Jewish folklore-inspired reimagining of 19th century Eastern Europe, this queer dark fantasy debut pits two estranged husbands and a daring spymaster on opposite sides of a civil war. Perfect for fans of Leigh ...
Dante's new series revolves around the mystery of the journal that was discovered in “The Rough Edges” series. a fast-paced, action-packed story that's filled with suspense and surprises... I highly recommend “The Collector.”
