Cara Cara orange is re-flowering after flowering too soon this winter. All the winter-set fruit fell off and there aren’t many blooms this spring.

A gloriously beautiful fly that looks a bit like a bee on white flowers with green foliage in the background. The direction of the photo is looking down on the fly’s head. The eyes are an opaque matte black and look like a bikini top on its head. The rest of the head is sunflower yellow with a long black stripe in the center. It has a black tongue sticking into the flower. The thorax is mostly black with two pairs of short yellow stripes. Its two wings are resting closed together and are translucent reddish brown. The legs are long, thin and reddish towards the tarsi and yellow near the abdomen. The flowers are closely packed together on a stem with thin white petals looking like they’re barely hanging on to the green star-shaped cup center.

The thorax is mostly black with yellow stripes going in the opposite direction. Its two wings are resting closed together and are translucent reddish brown. The legs are long, thin and reddish towards the tarsi and yellow near the abdomen. The flowers are clustered very close together on a stalk and have thin white petals that seem haphazardly arranged, green stamens, long thin filaments and yellow anthers. There are small leaflets poking out from under the flower cluster.

    Solanum corymbiflora, cold hardy tamarillo

    The blooms started in early spring. The internet says they bloom in the fall. (Lies, LIES!) Plant is not self-fertile so you need two. Currently hand-pollinating bc only two plants have opened flowers and the rest are still buds. No pests noticed. Needs protection from high winds.

    Last peanut butter fruit of the year (Bunchosia glandulifera). I have more hanging on the tree but not sure if they’ll ripen in the garage.
    That time of year again, bringing hundreds of plants into the garage and sunroom. What’s wrong with me?? Why do I do this to myself?? 😩🥹

    A picture of a cluster of 4 berries on long purple stems. The berries are flattened and round, and have purple pointed leaflets at the base of the berry on the berry. They are partially turning a shade of purple, and they have dark purple veins. Eventually, they should be almost black. They emerge from green leaves that are deeply veined. The plant is being held up by chicken wire.
