    One of the miracles of Saint Conrad was regurgitating a poisonous spider alive which had dropped into the altar wine during the Eucharist rite.

    Or maybe the spider was venomous - the source was unclear on this.

    A picture of a cluster of 4 berries on long purple stems. The berries are flattened and round, and have purple pointed leaflets at the base of the berry on the berry. They are partially turning a shade of purple, and they have dark purple veins. Eventually, they should be almost black. They emerge from green leaves that are deeply veined. The plant is being held up by chicken wire.

    Spider berry update, Campanumoea lancifolia:

    No ripe berries for Halloween. Alas. I saw spotted cucumber beetle on it yesterday and squished it. Also squished a tree cricket. A couple of unripe berries were slightly nibbled and discarded (probably cricket). I tried a green one and it tastes like baby peas. Not bad. Hopefully ripe berries are better.

They have purple spiny leaflets growing on the berry near the stem of the berry and this is how the berry gets its name bc they look like spider legs. The leaves are deeply veined lanceolate.     Some small things, mostly from the garden

    • Common Blue Bottle Fly (aka Blue-assed fly)
    • A tiny little plant hopper
    • A centipede, hard to photograph as it didn't stay still!
    • A spider I only saw up a tree because it was moving

    post by either halodite or MagicAct idk how to read this. one of them boosted it and the other posted it. i think there is something about people who were abused/neglected as kids that makes us embrace things that others consider monstrous. i don't think its a coincidence most of us like “creepy” animals like rats and crows. i don't think its a coincidence that we are the first to jump to the defense of “worthless” plants like dandelions. it's why we get so attached to old toys and broken things. when you spend your whole life believing you’re not wanted, it turns you into a defender of the other unwanted things in the world. and you’re not just protecting them - you’re protecting the part of yourself that still believes you deserve to exist. just like they do. just like we all do.
