It seemed at the time that social media was going ballistic about Judge Cannon and that your calming counsel could cool it down a tad. For those losing their heads over today's actions by Judge Cannon, take a deep breath. This was always going to happen. The writing has been on the wall since Judge Cannon was drawn for the case. Getting all worked up about it is only going to make you crazy and desperate. The way we will rid ourselves of this menace is at the polls in November.

@Teri_Kanefield @eurobubba @mastodonmigration The sad part in this exchange is that it is between several here I’d regard as the good guys and yet there is emerging a slight bit of rancour: little wonder emotions run so high in the country (US) as a whole. The damage since 2016 is off the charts. I should clarify I am only an observer and as a Canadian can’t even vote in the U.S. That doesn’t mean I don’t get enraged by things like yesterday’s Cannon salvo.

@Teri_Kanefield But it’s these kind of things that make me question whether voting in November will work in light of the gathering dark forces, up to and including the SC and the Cannons of the world. Based on the Seth Abramson thread posted today by @GottaLaff (on how 45 in effect stole the 2016 election) it’s clear he will try to do so again in 2024. And he’s far more motivated to do so, as it’s no longer the long-shot brand-building lark his 2016 run apparently was.

If you ever get to Toronto we’re 30 seconds from the lake: actually it is Long Branch, which few have heard of, 15-minute GO train from Union Station. We walk E & W along Lake Ontario 2 or 3 times a day: CN Tower in distance. Good luck on your move to B.C. I’m sure you, Mr. Laffy & Hammy will fit in just fine and enhance whatever local community you end up in.

Re: Taylor Swift’s new double album. Posted earlier on Threads so kind of testing relative interactions here as well as just curious. I liked 2 earlier Swift albums enough to buy on iTunes. But I do think on a first listen that all the songs sound almost the same, or are thinly disguised variants. In which case, a 2-hour double album seems to be pushing it. What do true Swifties think? Some say it is a generational thing and as an oldie my thing is more melody than lyrics.

The $250k is only for individuals.

@jmcrookston @maleve I am all for reasonable levels of taxation that fund commensurate services but feel that a top marginal tax rate above 50% is counterproductive, especially when you add 13% HST and property taxes, some of which must be paid with after-income-tax dollars.

@GottaLaff 2 thoughts on this (your move). Bill Maher had a good take this week, entitled Whoa Canada. Second, if you find politics so stressful, have you experimented with a News Diet? If 45 gets back in this November, I’ll be sorely tempted to cancel many subs, starting with NYT & WaPo. Till now have tuned in to see “Justice” and karma play out, but if that’s not in the cards, there’s always the ostrich strategy.

    @Teri_Kanefield Good blog, Teri. Curious about your line about subscribing to WaPo. So do I but there are some columnists, like Hugh Hewitt, who I mostly skip, going instead to the reader comments on his stories. There you will find many criticisms of the editorial direction WaPo has taken since William Lewis took over as Publisher & CEO. Couple that with being owned by billionaire Bezos and it’s clear many of their subscribers are cancelling or considering it. What say you?

    Back on the road to California. That means 📱connection is spotty, can’t often reply, but I try to read all replies & post news alerts.

    I say this every time: Returning to US from 🇨🇦 is culture shock, meaning being confronted by Trump/religious signs, banners, billboards. It’s stomach churning.

    It’ll be a relief to move permanently in late May.

    Yes, Doomers, 🇨🇦 has its issues. So does every country in the world. But 🇨🇦 currently feels safer.

    @GottaLaff As you say, Canada isn’t perfect but at least the politics isn’t so in your face, and there is much less gun violence. We have relatives in Ohio and South Carolina but no longer visit the U.S. and won’t until the MAGA threat is dispensed with once and for all.
