Arizona man gets life in prison in murder of wife who "vigorously struggled" after being buried alive, prosecutors say ( www.cbsnews.com )

An Arizona man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2017 death of his wife, who was buried alive in a hand-dug grave near their home while their children slept, authorities said....

No, but even for those of us with some extra money… we’re not building a savings pile for a house or anything… we’re just spending the extra on doing things and buying stuff beyond our needs.

Thing is, our brains could work the exact same way…. Only they’re constantly being trained, and have enough neurons that many clusters can be dedicated to very specific contexts.

Today is _____

Well, given the context that my phone says 1:20, and it’s dark, when I fell asleep it was Tuesday, and that Wednesday comes after Tuesday…. Plus all the necessary training that allowed me to understand all that context 24/hours in a day; days start at 12:00, 1 comes after 12 but only in our time of day system.

But to automate the front door unlocking, it needs to be detectable from HA. Which I believe is possible, but requires a macOS machine to extract the necessary rolling code key information.

The official term is community, not sub. FYI

I did really like it for notes in school… but yeah, now it’s just sitting there. Not cuz it’s old or has performance issues, I’ve just got no use for it. I either use my phone or my laptop.

Apparently Japan also has a homeless problem, I don’t recall how bad. But they have a culture that shames them so bad that they go to extreme lengths to mask their homelessness.

NightAuthor ,

So what is the bear thing? I’ve seen reference to it a couple of times… I get the gist, but like what’s the source?

NightAuthor ,

If the fear for a typical woman is this bad, then we need to be better about teaching boys. I’m a pretty empathetic person, just ask my new very rapidly made female best friend. But despite the wife, and a few pretty damn close female friends, close mom, sister…. The fears expressed in my short reading on the current discussion have never been as clearly communicated, well the fear was definitely clear, but not the magnitude.

I agree with the sentiment that it’s just a bad premise. It puts everyone straight into a defensive posture, and no one learns anything when they’re trying to defend their sense of self.

On the other hand, if people are going to DMs to harass beyond the context of the heated conversation… well they ARE DEFINITELY the kind of people who are a threat, and need to be dealt with.

Damn it, I trusted you

Maybe a little…. Crazy that he got $250k off of a request for $22k

Literally thought those exact words as I clicked into this post

It has some use cases for the ecosystem. But it sucks so bad, give me slack, he’ll id take discord over teams, and I hate discord.

NightAuthor ,

Yep, no one likes the “post” style inside of the team space… so we chat inside of group DMs. It’s so fucking stupid

NightAuthor ,

Nope, I hear the phenomenon is referred to as “intersectionality”

If you care about US democracy, tell your congressperson to support the Fair Representation Act! ( p2a.co )

The Fair Representation Act has been re-introduced in Congress. This bold solution can stop gerrymandering and make Congress work for every American. ...

Sounds good, but how is this constitutional? The state has complete control over how elections are executed.

Just to be clear on the biometrics, no normal device anyone uses sends your biometrics to apps secured by biometrics.

It’s more that your phone stores a very strong password that’s specific to that app, and your phone will automatically enter that password, but only if the phone can validate the biometric.

This is not meant to detract from anything else you said, just clearing up how that actually works.

I hop around periodically through iOS options, I’m using 2 main ones right now: Arctic and Avelon

I think Arctic is the best

Also, the thing about the cat…. He posited the situation as a farse. He was making fun of others who were saying that the world worked that way.

NightAuthor ,

I think in 10,000 years he’ll be in the books, but people won’t be making memes, and the average person won’t know anything about him.

Curious, non native English speaker?

Reminded is more like to make them remember. Remembered would be the word.

Also, pronounces kinda works, but simpler would just be the word “says”, or to add a more ominous tone “utters”.

No judgement, actually positive judgement… it’s very good English. And better than I speak any other language.

Cookie connoisseur, you know what you like and how to articulate it, hot.

Are people making non oatmeal, raisin cookies? Cuz like…. They look totally different, unmistakable.

I bet 😉

Was demoing a thing internally, and the higher up asks if the NPC was AI driven.

It’s all pretty basic behaviour we programmed in, follow but not too close. When I point, go there and wait till I’m done doing my thing. A couple other things.

But my PM said “no, it’s just got some basic rules”… and I’m like bro, it’s arguably AI. Just say it’s AI.

Was the choice of the word “shots” conscious?

I could see avoiding the word photo(graph) as a way of conveying a more tenuous relationship with reality.

r/sysadmin and the size of this community

So I have been a part of this community for a while and it seems pretty quiet. I know Lemmy is not as big as Reddit so this community will always be much smaller but I kind of miss the activity on r/sysadmin. Infinity for Reddit still works for view only so I have been scrolling though posts on Reddit as some of the stories and...

Did you know that: apart is actually the opposite of a part.

Person 1: How's it going?
Person 2: Well, so far today I lost my good pen and then I spilled coffee on my left shoe.

[Person 1 looks visibly upset.]
Person 2: What?

Person 1: You're supposed to just say "Good, how are you?." and I say “Good.” and we go on with our days.
Person 2: But what if I'm not good?

Person 1: I don't need to know about it!
Person 2: Then maybe don't ask!

You can totally drop a “meh”, “could be better”, etc. they’re maybe a bit obligated to ask for more details… or just be one of those people that straight up drop your whole emotional load on em.

There are plenty of problems with CPI, one of which is the very issue of “feelings”. Owners equivalent rent is absolutely irrelevant to actual rent costs. It’s just how much a homeowner says they would charge if they were to rent out their place. These are not the people renting out units…they’re just someone who happened to have enough money to buy a house. WTF do they know.

I’m pretty sure this has that fancy transitioning glass, when you lock the door it goes opaque.

Don’t forget that most of your email arrives at their servers unencrypted, supposedly they immediately encrypt it, but you have to take their word on that. And there’s always the possibility that they are forced or just decide to make a copy of emails as they’re encrypting for your inbox.
