It has been said a billion times and I doubt anyone here needs to hear it, but while there’s nothing wrong about avoiding brands you don’t feel comfortable supporting, expecting (not just encouraging) others to do so is just dumb and counterproductive.

We all saw what happened with the Hogwarts Legacy shitstorm. Yes, JKR sucks and it would’ve been better if nobody streamed it. But all the harassment only made things worse. Why can’t people just voice their concerns in a polite and unassuming way?

Looking at it realistically though, Astel does take a lot of breaks, and the tweet doesn’t hint at anything specific. It’s probably just in preparation for the concert or just to relax a bit. Hopefully.

Happy birthday priestess!

Also based Kuroboshi-papa, the hoodie is amazing.

Syrc ,

Five guys and five gals will be arguing they have a right to share DNA amongst each other and make a single kid

…Is that even possible? I thought humans could only have exactly two parents biologically? If I didn’t misunderstand, I’m legit curious about this.

Syrc ,

Still waiting for the Swastika/Manji to be de-nazified. Probably not gonna see it in my lifetime, unfortunately.

Syrc ,

The minute a billionaire bought the company they previously used, because in open source software, they finally see that no billionaire can buy it and control it like they can a closed source system.

I’m genuinely struggling to understand what this sentence means. Is it badly worded or am I just brainfarting?

Syrc ,

Oh, that makes sense.

I think “open source money” is a great idea and I’m sure many here do too, but as others pointed out in the replies, cryptocurrency has a lot of issues at the moment for that to be viable.

Also, a lot of the hate probably comes from all the people shilling for it and the whole “get rich with this!!!” narrative around it.

Syrc ,

Never ask Korone to marry you without standard precautions. Emotional damage will still come, but you might survive the rocket from a bunker.

Syrc ,

Wonder if we’ll actually get more animated stuff beyond this? I’m still not sure if HoloAlt was supposed to have more stuff beyond Holoearth and the mangas lol

Also, lmao @ Miko’s transformation being fire-themed, she really can’t escape it

From Wikipedia:

Propaganda is communication that is primarily used to influence or persuade an audience to further an agenda, which may not be objective and may be selectively presenting facts to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is being presented.

Propaganda isn’t always fake news, it can also be true stuff presented in a biased way.

Similarly, fake news isn’t always propaganda. Some is just stuff spread by trolls to make fun of people.

Syrc ,

Can it? I searched a bit and all the definitions I’ve found seem to be about swaying public opinion, not simple objective announcements.

It does have a negative connotation even though it can be used for good, but I still don’t think purely objective messages like “a tsunami is coming, get to high ground” should count as propaganda.

Syrc ,

I think that qualifies as propaganda too: its intention is to improve the public opinion of the Cohesion policy by clearing misconceptions.

(About the “project” in the video… what the hell? I had to Google it because I wasn’t convinced it was a real thing. Just why?)

Syrc ,

Yes, I figured but… isn’t that a bit too obvious? Surely there had to be a less blatant way of laundering money than… a treetop walk with no trees?

Syrc ,

as was always casting white guys as Charlie Chan but making them speak in a fake ‘Chinese guy who talks like white people think Confucious wrote’ way. There was a shit ton of cultural appropriation in Hollywood and there really still is with some cultures.

How is that “cultural appropriation” and not just… racism?

Syrc ,

The video in question, since links in the article lead to nothing

Syrc ,

They also usually dont do remakes/remasters unless its so new/different it can be considered a new game ( see metroid 2 on 3ds ).

Most of the games on that list fit that definition. Stuff like Zero Mission are extremely different from the original games.

Of course then you also have stuff like BDSP so it’s debatable whether they’ve kept up their policies in recent times, but you could definitely see that in the past.

Syrc ,

“Mario” barely qualifies as a single franchise at this point. It spans a ridiculous amount of genres.

Syrc , (edited )

Democrats have won more elections than Republicans, yet they have moved to the right. So what will it take to move them left?

They haven’t won enough. If people like Bernie are still losing primaries because “commies won’t win general elections” and Dems still have to go for the “middle-of-the-road” candidate while Republicans can prop up the literal antichrist, that means they still haven’t won enough to cause a shift.

Once they get enough wins (possibly in a row) that Republicans are the ones forced to go for a “middle-of-the-road” candidate, that’s when Dems will actually have to act as a left wing party to get votes.

EDIT: also, unless I miscounted, Dems actually have less wins than Republicans post-FDR.

Syrc ,

you cannot - I repeat cannot - move the Overton window left by voting for right-wingers.

Yes you can. You can lower the temperature of something by pouring over it something hot, but less hot than what you’re trying to cool down.

In the same way, voting for a right-winger over a far right-winger will shift the Overton window to the left. Because left and right are relative terms, like the other guy was trying to say.

Syrc ,

If that was true, liberal, you wouldn’t be in this pickle, would you? How long have you libs been voting for the “lesser evil” now?

Remind me the last time the US had three consecutive Democratic terms? 80 years ago? Not sure why you’re saying something isn’t working when it hasn’t even happened.

Syrc ,

We can’t afford to keep this status quo for another generation, we are destroying the planet.

And what’s the alternative? I mean, there’s a lot of stuff that can be done, but voting for Biden (or whoever is the leftmost candidate between the main two parties) doesn’t prevent you from doing any of that. You can do that and organize, go to protests and whatnot.

Syrc ,

I know there’s alternatives, my point was just that voting Dem doesn’t preclude, or slow down, any of them.

My argument here was that voting for Dems does not move them left, so I’m not sure how protest is relevant.

It eventually has to. But they have to win a lot for that to happen. In the past 80 years, the US never had three consecutive Dem terms, which means the needle is very much in between of the two parties (if not leaning right since Republicans actually had them once). So both can continue with their current policies and hope to be elected.

In the end that’s what matters to politicians, more than upholding any values they might champion: getting elected. Therefore the only way to shift the window in a FPTP system (barring violent protests, which are viable but a different matter), is to keep electing one party and send the message to the other that, unless they calm the fuck down, they’re not getting the seat ever again.

There’s no way that after three or four consecutive Dem terms Republicans will still keep campaigning on killing abortion and LGBT rights. They want that seat, and, like every political party in a similar system, they’ll compromise to get it. At that point, when their opponent isn’t a cartoon villain anymore, Dems will lose their main selling point and will be forced to prop up actual leftist policies to retain votes.

Syrc ,

Because they don’t win due to neoliberalism, they win due to their opponent being the literal antichrist. The point is to force Republicans to change their (supposedly) losing strategy, and have Dems react to that.

You can see how, for example, after the three consecutive Republican terms of ‘80-‘92, Democratic candidates have shifted more towards the right on average, in order to recapture more “average” voters.

I don’t have the competence to lay down accurately the process or know the best examples for it, but it’s pretty much basic game theory. If you keep losing consensus you have to adjust your strategy to be more similar to whoever is winning.

Syrc ,

Oh god. Can’t wait for her to find out.

Syrc ,

Wait, I’m out of the loop, why did she have a surgery?

Syrc ,

Looks like it is. And yes, apparently they use 7 as a consonant.

Syrc ,

I googled it and I wish it wasn’t

Syrc ,

Hey, early Yahoo answers was very useful. A de-shittified, federated, stripped down to the bare questions-answers network could be neat.

Syrc ,

Eh I mean, if you think the developers/publishers are trustworthy I see no issue with preordering personally (Not that I know much about these ones, I only heard about the series from clips, it was more of a generic statement).

Syrc ,

This is why Steam reviews should be taken much more seriously. This was impossible to avoid due to the enormous amount of bad press and devs themselves jumping on the hate train, but I’m betting that a lot of review bombing attempts have been quietly offset by the company just paying people for fake reviews. It’s especially obvious when the game has relatively low reviews for months and months, then suddenly bad stuff happens and along with the justified dump of negative reviews, positive ones also skyrocket (99% of which composed of “good game”, random memes or ascii art).

Syrc ,

These reviews will have a lasting effect on the game even though the drama bubble has now popped.

Steam has a specific thing that appears when you keep playing a lot on a game that you’ve negatively reviewed asking if you want to change it. I think a game is rarely impacted long-term by review bombing for a resolved issue, unless the reviewers actually dropped the game and went on with their lives.

Syrc ,

Not our fault the entire tech industry keeps engineering new ways to give people trust issues.

Syrc ,

It does kind of have “We would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!” energy to me.

There’s no way they thought the PSN thing would’ve been a well-received update.

Syrc ,

Yup, been there done that. I’ve just resigned to the fact that the whole social cues thing is too much for my brain and I’ll just stick to the hobby and be friends with them unless I get really lucky and get to know a girl that’s simultaneously interested in me and willing to make the first move.

Syrc ,

I’ve heard of a club in my country where you put on a colored bracelet based on whether or not are you looking for a partner. Seemed like a cool idea but I think it didn’t catch on.

Syrc ,

Yes. That’s why you need to make sure there’s no stupid involved when you sell a gun, and the US seem to fail pretty hard at that.

Syrc ,

Not really, at least on Wikipedia the page for review bombing and the one listing significant ones make no distinction between actually having played the game/watched the movie or not.

Syrc OP ,

Maybe they expected less considering the vast majority of those games are really short/unfinished and not on huge platforms like Steam. On the other hand, it’s also to be expected that having the chance of official recognition (and possibly even monetization) will drive people to put more effort into them.

As for the rejection rate I’m not sure it’s really that high, they said their plan is to release around 10 games per year so if they get 50 applications at the same time they’ll naturally have to say “hold on a sec” to most of them.

Syrc ,

Man, hope it's nothing serious. Good luck with whatever it is.

Syrc ,

Whoa, that is some quality animation.

Also, Biboo without her :D face is… unsettling.

Syrc ,

Neither the site nor the author point to any of this being satire, unfortunately.

They’re just that much detached from reality.

Syrc ,

The screenshot does have a “dismiss” button, so I suppose if you click there you’ll still be able to see the fullscreen video.

But yeah, those are definitely cumulative with existing ads, knowing the greedy fucks.

Syrc ,

I’m not that well-versed in US policy for this stuff, but if it’s standard practice why would they lie about it?

Syrc ,

Apparently the issue is people asked the University if there were snipers, at 8:15 pm they replied there weren’t, and later said they deployed them at 10 pm.

More reasonable than what it looked like but still kinda crazy, at least from my outside perspective.
