I had no idea, I had some issues running native and I somewhat gaslight myself into thinking Valve somehow deprioritized Linux support.

I guess my problem is solved then. Thanks!

dwindling7373 ,

There's very little Jedi in the Star Wars Universe so it's reasonable to consider the advancement of prosthetics in this universe indipendent from lightsabers.

dwindling7373 ,

It is not the game is very easy. Yoshi is also one of the best characters (there's a total of 3 characters, light, medium and heavy).

dwindling7373 ,

Bats don't need light therefore a light switch have no meaning for them.
Lost referres more to the human than the bat side.

How does the day-to-day work of not wearing shoes in the house?

I have been reading a lot lately about not wearing outside shoes in the house and it interests me even more because I've been saving to re-carpet my whole house. It hits me every now and then about how to do things though, like, say I'm cooking all day on Sunday then need to take the trash out. I'm assuming it's change shoes,...

dwindling7373 ,

Yes and what's best is we can be fully relaxed while having shoes on anywhere outdoor as an added benefit.

dwindling7373 ,

Yes but 90% of the time they are not muddy or wet or snowy, and they stay on.

dwindling7373 ,

So... burning energy rather then improving local insulation.

It's literally one click on Lutris.

Not in my experience. Some patch are easier than other I guess.

It is still a very very very very marginal and marginalyzed topic unless your social cyrcle is a very specific one.

In my experience the positive and/or effective ones are "GDPR", "Snowden", "Surveillance", "Freedom"...

Sadly, to me the idea of Urf is much more fun than Urf itself... But to be fair even better than the idea of Urf is the splash art and the music of Urf.

I imagine Chrome prioritized this feature because it's valuable for them to clearly distinguish different users (and because they can).

Given the limited popularity of the feature Firefox sounds good enough. I used to use two distinct installation and had satisfying results for my use case.

I look for national communities to discuss topic relevant to my country, other than that I'm all for the broader reach allowed by a more international approach.

Yes I'm excluding those that don't speak English in 2024, but that's just an accidental plus.

    dwindling7373 ,

It was a bit of a joke, but also English is very accessible these days and lacking a basic knowledge of it is more a matter of lack of interest for the maters of the world at large than being deprived of the chance to learn it.

I'd be excluding way more people speaking in my native languadge anyway.

Huge Firefox fan here. I can't help but feel this is some junky attention grabbing "feature". Like... Surely there's a better implementation than a redundand long-ass right-click menu option.

Plenty of plugins will do the same thing quietly for every link you ever interact with anyway...

Well, Bob, that's the point. Your "threat model" is just... wrong.

    Proton Support Issues ( kbin.social )

I've been trying to get answers from Proton for literal months concerning critical functionality issues with their mobile Android client. Messages are often truncated / missing data; clearly, there's a disconnect between the cached version of the message and the message the user sees. Unfortunately, every attempt to resolve this...

Penso il suo destivo sia però più legato a come si evolverà lemmy e meno alle "scelte" degli utenti, che vedo più come vittime di dinamiche al di fuori del loro esplicito controllo.

Not an expert but at a certain point FreeTube introduced SponsorBlock in their code, and posted a blog post describing why it wasn’t on by default and how that choice was a good compromise toward the creators and to push for better form of monetization. A similar talk was had by NewPipe. From those link you can find all sort of details about the intended (and unintended) impact of those tools.

    docs.freetubeapp.io/usage/sponsorblock/

    newpipe.net/…/newpipe-and-online-advertising/

From those sources it’s easy to see that those technology are indeed transparent to some form of monetization.

Technology aside, I think it’s safe to assume YouTube incentivizes creators according to engagement and retention, no matter the technology used to see them or the ads shown, since what they are ultimately rewarding is the skill of the creator in grabbing human attention. How to maximize the monetization of that is secondary.

    dwindling7373 ,

We are working on establishing defined criteria for every section of our site, and this may be subject to change. If you have any questions about our criteria, please ask on our forum and don’t assume we didn’t consider something when making our recommendations if it is not listed here. There are many factors considered and discussed when we recommend a project, and documenting every single one is a work-in-progress.

    dwindling7373 ,

Other than a couple of neat features, basically it allows you to have the youtube account features, without having an account.

Locally you tell him what channels you care for, and it fetches your homepage for you, without all the strings attached to google doing that within your account and, hence, knowing exactly what kind of person you are.

    dwindling7373 ,

Are you, like, manually writing down on paper the 0s and 1s of the software you use? Personally it takes me 20 seconds top to “download a whole program”.

    dwindling7373 ,

Is that in theory or tried and true? I never seriously attempted it because I was afraid one of the two sides (mostly Windows) would just go crazy and fuck everything up.

    dwindling7373 ,

According to my continued survival on the planet, none.

    dwindling7373 ,

That pricing (or any pricing) is unsustainable, all it is there for is to give illusion of choice to try and comply with the law. Your data are useless if too many people choose to pay and Facebook dies, on the contrary the more people allows for refined monetization, the stronger Facebook’s business becomes (or get back to before GDPR status).

    dwindling7373 ,

Why would you need a researcher for that? This is not some ancient history or something…
