Excluding London, how would you rank UK cities in terms of how good their public transport is?

The UK has some of the worst public transport of Europe’s “more economically developed countries” after decades of austerity and lack of investment into public services. But which local councils would you say have made the most out of what they have had to work with in developing a transport network that is effective for...

RMTransit just did a video about how it’s basically impossible to have good public transit without London-style city control.

The comments on his video list certain cities where the council own a bus company and everything works okay.

Note that the north of England almost got an Oyster card style of combined payment system thanks to tfN.

Texas “was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery-- the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits-- a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which [Texas] people intended should exist in all future time

Gee, what a hard question to figure out from historical sources, guess we’ll never know what they were thinking…

Trump Touts Endorsements From Global Dictators ( nymag.com )

Donald Trump has flitted erratically from one position to another on a variety of political beliefs, but he has hewed with remarkable consistency to one: Dictators are good. Trump has maintained this belief throughout his long public career, and he asserted it once again in a speech in New Hampshire Saturday....

So why did a jury find that Google held a monopoly but Apple didn’t? ( www.theguardian.com )

“Google has taken great pains to appear more open than Apple, licensing the Android operating system to third parties like Samsung and allowing users to install apps via other methods than the Play store. Apple does neither. When it comes to exclusivity, Apple has become synonymous with “walled garden” in the public...

The jury, he argued, was essentially allowed to conjure up damning evidence in their minds that may not have existed

Well yes, that’s exactly what the court will do if they find that you’ve been deleting evidence - they assume that whatever you deleted must have been damning to the case otherwise why would you have told employees to use “delete after 24h” communication channels?

That’s way above the “tens of millions” that some commentators were predicting based off the filings - maybe they didn’t include the punitive damages? Or did the judge cause a surprise with the number?

After the verdict, Giuliani said he didn’t testify because he was worried the judge would find him in contempt, and complained that he hadn’t been allowed to enter evidence that his allegations were true, despite his not having turned over any such evidence before trial

Just wow. Guess there’s a difference between what you’re willing to tell a reporter on the street and what you’re willing to tell the judge in court?
