There's probably not a grand conspiracy to fix NBA games, but the officiating is too fucky for me to bet against the idea.

The NBA would probably try to rig that bet too.

41% is the number of executives that think AI will reduce their work force, not the number of jobs they expect to replace.

Your point stands though.

LA Times Column: How Jack Smith just called out Judge Aileen Cannon in the Trump classified records case ( www.latimes.com )

The Smith team then made its most important and aggressive move by noting that when judges have issued clearly erroneous jury instructions that doom prosecutions, “courts have permitted the government to obtain writs of mandamus.”...

bobburger ,

Writ of mandamus from Wikipedia

A writ of mandamus (/mænˈdeɪməs/; lit. ''we command'') is a judicial remedy in the English and American common law system consisting of a court order that commands a government official or entity to perform an act it is legally required to perform as part of its official duties, or to refrain from performing an act the law forbids it from doing. Writs of mandamus are usually used in situations where a government official has failed to act as legally required or has taken a legally prohibited action.[1] They cannot be issued to compel an authority to do something against the law. For example, it cannot be used to force a lower court to take a specific action on applications that have been made, but if the court refuses to rule one way or the other then a mandamus can be used to order the court to rule on the applications.

bobburger ,

Find me a company that's going to deny a court order for $5 a month.

Proton promises privacy and security. Not collusion in whatever illegal shit you're doing.

bobburger ,

This is an interesting premise.

What I'm more curious about is what are you planning to do after you "own the dems" and don't vote for Biden in November? How do you intend to support your agenda in the future? Continue posting shitty memes on a very small internet chat room? Not vote for the next Democratic candidate and own the dems again?

I get the need to feel heard, but what are your plans to actually make your life better? Don't say something stupid like "I'll know I did the right thing because I didn't support genocide". You're doing more to support the invasion in Gaza just by paying taxes in America than you would by voting.

bobburger ,

I appreciate the earnest response, I didn't intend so much snark.

This is basically the same sort of thing progressives have been trying for at least the last 30 years or so. Which hasn't really worked so far. The far right gets so much attention politically because they show up and vote Republican in large numbers.

Unfortunately progressives always find some issue they need to take a stand on and they use that as an excuse to not vote for the Democratic candidate. Since progressives don't consistently show up to vote Democrats have to pander to the middle and the right to make up for those lost votes. End result is progressive causes get ignored because they aren't a reliable voting block.

bobburger ,

It's generally the progressives that are holding back progress

bobburger ,

Lol I love this take. "I'm not voting, and it's your fault Trump's getting elected". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

bobburger ,

Every thing you google is just going to direct you to a link to let me google that for you

bobburger ,

To be fair it's a pretty terrible dataset. The AI is just going to say "this" to every question you ask

bobburger ,

Will that actually help reduce genocide or just satisfy your need to be self righteous?

bobburger ,

The far right gets a lot of attention politically because they show up and vote Republican consistently.

Progressives are generally ignored because they always have some reason their conscience won't allow them to vote Democratic.

If you aren't a reliable voting block you can't expect your platform to be given priority.

bobburger ,

I went to school in a rural part of a blue state and I had a similar experience to you. Woodworking and cooking were options but they were electives.

bobburger ,

This seems like a slightly different version of llamafile

bobburger ,

I'm sure a couple of them are real people.

bobburger ,

Why can't you go back? Are you afraid you'll be executed because you're a member of the LGBTQ community? Or because you support women being able to go out in public without a head scarf? Or are you going to be publicly executed because you said you say something disparaging about the government or Islam?

bobburger ,

This is an interesting take. You seem to think that Biden has unilateral power to decide treaties and spending. Also, that he can pass whichever law he wants. It's almost like you don't understand how 2 of the 3 branches of government work. Did you take a civics class in high school?

bobburger ,

How will getting Trump elected in November stop the genocide now?

bobburger ,

Hahaha, you're a fucking useless clown

bobburger ,

Lol okay, I take solace in the fact that I have a passport and I can go wherever I want

bobburger ,

Lol good luck with that. Just organize a little harder and I'm sure you'll do great.

bobburger ,

You didn't actually read this article did you?

bobburger ,

I like to imagine this was thought up by some ambitious product manager who enthusiastically pitched this idea during their first week on the job.

Then they carefully and meticulously implemented their plan over 3 years, always promising the executives it would be a huge pay off. Then the product manager saw the writing on the wall that this project was gonna fail. Then they bailed while they could and got a better position at a different company.

The new product manager overseeing this project didn't care about it at all. New PM said fuck it and shipped the exploit before it was ready so the team could focus their work on a new project that would make new PM look good.

The new project will be ready in just 6-12 months, and it is totally going to disrupt the industry!

I use simplex with graphene os on my pixel 7 pro and it works great.

bobburger ,

The well sourced Wikipedia article indicates there is some conflict among the international community. Some people are calling China's treatment of the Uyghurs a genocide even without well documented mass murder. Other's are just calling "cultural genocide" and a "crime against humanity".

Whichever technical point you want to pick is up to you. Either way the treatment of the Uyghur people is unethical and the Chinese government is undoubtedly trying to erase the Uyghur people and their culture from existence.

bobburger ,

I'm not sure about what's off screen, but everything that I can see is defined at n=0

bobburger ,

It's convenient that he waited until it was clear the insurrection had failed before he told them to go home.

Also, I don't remember Bush over throwing democracy being a big talking point. You got any source for that?

bobburger ,

I hope this doesn't come across as insincere, but why is the tri-county part relevant? Is it just a convenient geographic grouping? Is it a metaphor?

bobburger ,

Lol I love this take.

Normal people:

Donald Trump getting elected will be bad for labor rights, abortion rights, voting rights, LGBTQ rights, among a ton of other freedoms. I should do the simple thing and vote for Joe Biden even though I disagree with some of his policies and he hasn't taken a strong enough stance on others that I support. I understand he has to compromise and can't tailor his policies exactly to my niche beliefs. Even if I don't vote, Biden or Trump will be president; I should vote for the one that will at least do some of the things I support.

The brave freedom fighters on Lemmy with a spine:

Joe Biden isn't catering to me and my friends, I'm not voting for that capitalist neo liberal pig Joe Biden. Surely the Democrats will call me next time they nominate a candidate, after all we should be catered too even though we're an extremely small community.

bobburger ,

I'm sure your little club is just big enough to get Donald Trump elected, that's how margins work.

Unfortunately for you there a magnitudes more voters that would be alienated by your fringe politics, so most elected officials aren't going to give your ideas priority. To think otherwise is the attitude of a petulant child that wants a happy meal when the rest of the family wants to go to sushi.

Despite all that I think you've convinced me. The best way to stop the genocide in Gaza now, in March of 2024, is to make sure that the Zionist, single state solution, ban on Palestinian immigration candidate gets elected to be our president in from 2025 through 2029. That will definitely teach those damn establishment Democrats to listen to us, and will 100% improve the lives of the people in Gaza and the west bank. I'm sure that Trump is just joking about immigrants tainting the blood of America. He's surely not serious about project 2025, or enacting a nation wide abortion ban after 6 weeks. We have to get this guy elected in November to stop the genocide today.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! ( pawb.social )

I don't like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

bobburger ,

Lol, yeah I'm going to organize an armed rebellion against a country that can shoot me in the chest with a fucking rocket covered in swords from the other side of the world while I'm chilling on my deck with my family.

bobburger ,

I saw something similar happen in rural Georgia. It was about 15 years ago, so some of the details are a little fuzzy.

Basically a county official owned a shitty undeveloped lot across the street from a nice developed lot owned by the county.

The county needed some kind of storage facility, so they built one. Unfortunately the county "accidentally" built the storage facility on the shitty undeveloped lot owned by the county official. No one noticed the mistake until the building was nearly complete.

Luckily the county official was a stand up guy and offered to just switch lots with the county and call it even. What a nice guy, he sure saved the county a lot of embarrassment.

To be fair a nuclear operator can typically afford to support a family of 5 even today.

No longer receiving text messages on Pixel 7 Pro

About 3 days ago I stopped receiving text messages. If I clear out the data and cache from the messaging app and then restart my phone I receive any of the texts I've missed and new texts for about 20 minutes. After that I stop receiving texts again and I have to clear my data and reboot again....

EVs only recover about 90% of the energy used I'm braking with regenerative braking. That means they don't even recover all of the energy needed to slow the car down, which certainly not enough to get the car back up to it's previous speed.

All this to say:

Regenerative braking doesn’t add significant miles to your driving range.

So relying solely on regenerative braking isn't going to have any meaningful impact on driving range.

Source

bobburger ,

You aren't getting the full benefits of a plugin hybrid electric motor if you're relying on regenerative braking. My source clearly explains this.

You get small efficiency gains that add up over time, but you certainly aren't seeing a meaningful extension in range over a single trip, and you certainly aren't seeing the benefits of a plug in electric motor if you rely on regenerative braking. In fact, this was one of the main points made in the OP; phev drivers rely on the ICE and thus don't achieve the emissions benefits that should come with a phev.

bobburger ,

84% is a very specific number, do you have a source for that?

bobburger ,

You must have a lot of strong opinions about the Belt and Road initiative since "debt slavery" is so important to you.

Also, how do you feel about 996 working hours?

bobburger ,

And you dont see how voting for the "lesser evil" allows both parties to move further and further right?

I see a lot of people who aren't voting using this logic and I don't really understand it.

If there are some number of candidates running, and the most left wing candidate wins each time, how does that push the country to the right?

bobburger ,

That doesn't really make sense, but I appreciate the honest effort.

Good luck, I hope you remember that one of Trump and Biden is going to be the next president whether you vote or not. Which one do you think is going to push the US farther to right? (That's a rhetorical question that you should answer for yourself, no one else's opinion really matters here)

bobburger ,

I love DuckDB. It's really nice to be able to put a bunch of parquet files in a directory and then do operations on them as if they were a sql database. You can even put an index on the files if you're feeling froggy.

bobburger ,

You seem to be JAQing off here, but your straw man is pretty weak.

Let's say instead the abused woman is safely away from her husband and he can't harm her any more. Then she illegally obtains a firearm, drives 2 hours to the husband's place of work, starts a fight with him, and when he starts to get violent with her she the shoots him.

Do you think this woman is justified in the shooting?

bobburger ,

He also wasn't married to an abusive man. What's your point?

bobburger ,

I see that I have 3 options for voting.

Vote for Biden, the candidate that's closest to my politics. Result: I help the government move closer to my values.

Vote for Trump, the candidate that is farthest from my politics. Result: I help the government move farther away from my values.

Vote 3rd party or don't vote. Result: I have a slight sense of moral superiority because I voted my conscience but didn't actually help the government move in the direction I wanted, and may have helped it move in a direction I didn't want.

Given these 3 options, Project 2025 and Trump's stance on abortion make Biden worth a vote.

Sure Biden's policies aren't exactly what I want, but they're a lot closer to mine than Trump's are. And since either one of Trump or Biden is going to be the next president (unless something unexpected happens), I'm going to vote for Biden.

bobburger ,

This is my 3rd because I keep signing up on small instances and then they shut down 😔
