  1. California's BOT Disclosure Law was perhaps unfairly panned in a Wired commentary in 2019, by an employee of what Harper's magazine said is the industry-captured "Big Disinformation" research industry.

It was passed by the legislature and signed by CA Gov Jerry Brown.

(This is an excerpt from newsletter of TracingVRL, formerly known as TracingCOVID https://tracingvrl.substack.com/p/departing-an-eventful-april )

Why bring it up today?

Thread Postscript: As Futurism reported in their "Meet AdVon" investigation, the lack of BOT disclosure in written text makes people disengage from both BOT-authored and human-authored content.

It "makes the web worse for everyone"

https://futurism.com/advon-ai-content

After last week, I'll assume all outlets are publishing BOT-authored content alongside human-authored without disclosure, until they publish a policy statement indicating otherwise

    A handful of billionaires are tightening their grip on the information ecosystem.

    Elon Musk has transformed Twitter into x, a platform that amplifies disinformation, bigotry and conspiracy theories. Musk altered the network's algorithm to promote his fascist propaganda and suppress links from factual, science and reputable Information and other independent outlets.

    Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has downgraded reliable news and political sites for Information on Facebook and other Meta properties, prioritizing memes and celebrity gossip.

    Stop using the fascist platforms.

    If, like roughly a hundred million Americans, you regularly consume fascist propaganda in the guise of cable “news” (fox, newsmax, & other propaganda outlets) online disinformation publications, and the platform formerly known as Twitter, it’s likely that at least some of that fascist propaganda is originating in Moscow.

    Kremlin documents reveal Russian trolls are targeting U.S. support for Ukraine and engaging in a significant campaign to undermine U.S. elections and discourage voting.

    @Alexandrad1 @Miro_Collas @palestine I don't say so exactly, I wouldn't dare.

    I don't want to fall for like you won't. Therefore I wanted to point out, that the corpses could have been murdered by Israel, but that isn't sure. There are individuals in Gaza, often called terrorists, known for brutality, and so I didn't rule out a deed of palestinian murderers as well.

    The case has to be investigated, don't you think?

    finche ,

    @Alexandrad1 @Miro_Collas @palestine

    Sorry, that is not the sort of discussion I want to engage in. This is, I beg your pardon, some emotional talk to be talked in bars, streets or rallyies.

    But, in short: I don't believe there have been nearly 200 Israeli there.

    And, pardon again, thinking of the strip as a concentration camp does nothing than expose your knowledge of the organization of concentration camps.

    1. For us to flourish as we integrate COVID-management into our lives, democracy-avoidant brands could incorporate a trend now circling academic sociology networks, the concept of "antifragility".

    In it's best form, sociological antifragility is the encouraging of students to become more full human beings by trying things they may fail at, but trying them and growing as a result.

    / NYT Casts Doubt on Its Own Reporting of Sexual Attacks in Be'eri

    An unnamed Israeli paramedic had told media outlets that he found the partially clothed bodies of two teenage girls that bore signs of sexual violence in a home in Be'eri. However, a video taken by an Israeli soldier shows the fully-clothed bodies of three female victims, identified as two sisters and their mother, with no apparent signs of sexual assault. Residents of Be'eri who viewed the video concluded that the paramedic's account of the two girls being sexually assaulted was false.

    While the paramedic declined to retract his account, the Israeli military said he may have "misremembered" the location where he saw the teenagers' bodies.

    […] More than 50 tenured journalism professors from top universities have signed a letter calling on the New York Times to address questions about a major investigative report that described a “pattern of gender-based violence” in the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

    […] The letter follows months of criticism and concerns raised by outside critics as well as some Times staffers about the credibility of its sourcing and the editorial process for the story.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/2024/04/29/new-york-times-oct-7-journalism-professors-letter/ or https://archive.is/riKPU

    Specifically they raise concerns about the reliance on inexperienced freelance reporters, Anat Schwartz and Adam Sella, for such an important story. They also highlight contradictions between the story's language about "evidence" and the reporter Jeffrey Gettleman's comments downplaying the use of that term.
