@thurrott First world problem, just upgrade already. Its not like upgrading is gonna have a major impact. Operating systems are solved problems. You can launch a web browser, word processor, email just as you would in on . We all know that 90% of time spent in Windows. Sure, if you are a corporation specialized LOB apps, then testing and paying to maintain compatibility might be required.

@thurrott Its what we have deployed on all PC's at work, but never thought too much of it. I remember back in like 2007, to get access to Enterprise was seen as some holy grail. I have a bunch of saved keys which includes a lot of Enterprise keys. I should upgrade Pro installs to it just for fun.

@itsfoss just published an article for April Fools' Day.

https://news.itsfoss.com/microsoft-ubuntu/

It's really one of the better April Fools' pranks I've ever come across. It's grounded and almost believable that it actually had me there for a minute! 😂

Good one, guys!

@thurrott After all, it's not wise to jump out of a perfectly working airplane 😂 I use at work, but some of the computers are starting to get the upgrade to . To be honest though, I don't see any night and day benefits. Its not like a going from FAT32 to NTFS, or a true 32 bit operating system with memory management, pre-emptive multi-tasking.

You can make a old somewhat more usable, replacing the silly stuff with
It is a bit of a hasle, with stupid and bs but works. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-hub/surface-hub-2s-migrate-os

I would have liked to the try on it but I can't seem to be able to either disable or choose anything but a key. Documentation says you should be able to do that but, nope.

@thurrott My PC at work is being upgraded to next week. is likely saving for the 30th anniversary of Windows 95. The company has used that as a point in time when Windows became mainstream. August 2025 seems like the right time do it and it will be close to 5 years after Windows 11 launched.

Gentle reminder to everyone that support for ends in about 90 weeks. Many computers can't upgrade to Win 11 so here are your options:

  1. Continue on Win 10 but with higher security risks.
  2. Buy new and expensive hardware that supports Win11.
  3. Try a beginner friendly distro like . It only takes about two months to acclimate.

Can your Windows 10 PC be saved in 2025? Yes - for free. Here's how https://zdnet.com/article/can-your-windows-10-pc-be-saved-in-2025-yes-for-free-heres-how/ by

There are many ways to keep your old PC working after its support deadline, and two of them– Flex and –won’t cost you a dime.

was supposed to be the last, and after it there is 11 and as you can see there will also be 12... It promises to be more cloud solutions and based on and in my opinion it can cause an outflow of users, not an increase in their number as some predict.

I took it off, and it's saving me a fortune in power, time and patience. Power especially! Those fans were running all of the time.

I don't understand how a user-level application is even allowed to lock the entire machine for minutes at a time and make it unusable after a while. That's some seriously bad there and not at all friendly!

This is on but it's just as bad on

PSA

If you're on an operating system that doesn't have an updated emoji picker, even if you have an up-to-date emoji font, there's an online emoji picker here:

https://github-emoji-picker.vercel.app/

This may be especially useful for any folks on Windows 10, which hasn't seen an official emoji font update since emoji 12 & which actively hides certain emojis 🤦‍♀️
