Isn't the hippocampus where short-term memory is stored? Why did the #Kdrama#QueenOfTears#눈물의여왕 said it is for long-term #memory? It's also actually stored in parts of the brain, the hippocampus only acts as a catalyst to store, not access, right?
“The democratic memory also serves to repair the Roma people” by Sofía Pérez Mendoza #ElDiarioEs#Spain#Spanish
“The Government is going to approve a Memory Commission, foreseen in the law of 2022, which will give rise to measures of "truth, justice, and reparation" for this community, whose history is one of the most unknown. With the help of historians, we recover large and small episodes to fill in the gaps.”
Though they've been gone for several years now, within the walls of my grandparents' house, I could still sense their presence, hear their voices, and smell their familiar scents. Closing the door for the last time today marked more than just an end to my visits—it symbolized the closure of my childhood and adolescence. It's an incredibly sad day for me. Yet, in this moment of reflection, I'm reminded that the sun will rise again tomorrow. Life, in all its facets, continues to move forward. This includes the BSD-based mail system I've been diligently working on, which is nearing a significant milestone.

📖 In a chapter of the book "Photography in Portuguese Colonial Africa, 1860–1975", Catarina Laranjeiro “considers the photographs collected from combatants who fought on the Guinean liberation movement and African combatants who belonged to the Portuguese Armed Forces as the objects of a memory elicitation exercise”.
A leading food and drug chemist says most memory supplements probably aren't going to work. But getting enough protein from some plant sources and eating more berries just might boost your recall. Here’s more from Business Insider. https://flip.it/00WN5V #Science#Food#Memory#Health#Brain

EMPIRES OF LIES? THE POLITICAL USES OF CULTURAL HERITAGE IN WAR by Nour A. Munawar (2023) #Article#OpenAccess
"This article investigates how cultural memory has been manipulated in the war in Ukraine, and in the previously occupied Crimea. We argue that cultural heritage, memory, and museum collections have been removed and/or repurposed to legitimise the current invasion by linking it to a grand narrative of Russian power and the recovery of ancestral lands. We present case studies from the annexation of Crimea (2014), the war in Ukraine (2022 -), and make a brief comparison with the armed conflict in Syria (2011 – 2022)."
"Those with #ADHD tend to have less 'bandwidth' in their working #memory functions, and are likely to have more difficulty than others in quickly linking together various memories relevant to doing or not doing a task. They are less likely to take into account the bigger picture of which the present moment is a part."
Recalling the details of past events is a skill only humans were thought to possess. In fact, some experts have argued, with some pushback, that “episodic memory” sets humans apart from other animals. Now, rats may be the latest creatures from the animal world to disprove that theory. Here’s more from Science Alert, including how the way we “ask” animals if they remember may influence results. https://flip.it/ncsEOs #Science#Memory#Animals#Humans#Rats
Linux has a solid reputation of being RAM-friendly, and Fedora is no exception! Workstation can run on as little as 4GB of RAM, but other spins like Fedora @xfce or Fedora @LXQt will probably give you a better experience for small amounts of memory. Great for computers where every byte of RAM counts. 🧮

"Modernist heritage and memory politics in Spain: shifting values for the adaptive reuse of Seville’s former police headquarters" by Plácido González Martínez (2023). #OpenAccess
"This study aimed to explore the important factors determining the conservation and adaptive reuse of Seville’s former police headquarters, whose significance can be divided into aesthetic and political factors. Both factors follow dominant discourses that ultimately rely on a top-down perspective of heritage identification, documentation, conservation and management. Further explorations of the building’s public value will show to what extent these official discourses and public opinion may have aligned or not and may constitute a reference for future decision-making processes".
