“The Global South is looking very carefully at the progression of this conflict and is making comparisons. And I believe that it is losing confidence in the viability of the values that have been projected by the Global North. This is a very dangerous situation because it can cause the unravelling of the world order.”

Call me a mad old conspiracy theorist, but one hour after BP said this, Sunak called for a ceasefire. Our tax money at work now looking after BP’s oil tankers is also a nice touch. Money doesn’t talk it fucking screams and it’s more important than us to our ‘’leaders’’

The UK Met Police have announced plans to use facial recognition tech to identify shoplifters – the new boogeyman to legitimise a explosion of biometric surveillance.

At the same time as the weakens the regulatory framework by scrapping the position of the Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner and the Surveillance Camera Code.

This is end of the idea that the west has any kind of moral authority. Any government voting against a ceasefireis knowingly supporting genocide. Israel is a sock puppet for US foreign policy and the US could stop this war tomorrow. There is blood on their hands.

The group was filming about 2km away from Israeli shelling when they were struck by an Israeli tank shell, which killed 37-year-old Abdallah, investigations by Amnesty International and HRW found.

Just 37 seconds later, the group was struck by an unknown munition that destroyed a car used by Al Jazeera, wounding the remaining six journalists. Reuters’ own investigation found that both rounds were fired by Israeli tanks.

This won't be a surprise to any of us, given the way the world has turned since 2003, but here's the views of a couple of political leaders on the death of a notorious war criminal and justice avoider.
Bliar: "There is no-one like Henry Kissinger. I was in awe of him."
Johnson: ""With the passing of Henry Kissinger we have lost a giant of diplomacy and strategy - and peacemaking."

So you piss off your entire party, you look for someone outside, you pick someone who hasn't been in Parliament for seven years, and you still manage to come up with someone who has the whiff of corruption about him

Definition of irony; Braverman being a fascist gobshite and kicking off about the London ceasefire match saying it's a hate march and sidelining the Met. All the while it's actually the Brexit loons waving St George's flags (more irony right there, just slather it on thickly) being aggressive against the police and chanting 'England till I die' at the cenotaph.

Tell me how, in a world where those who represent us in government are supposed to, you know, represent us, not make money hand-over-fist from their positions of power and knowledge, this — any of this — is legal.

A bot (= strategy) made stock purchases and sales the equivalent of various US Reps and Senators. The bot made much more money than the market as a whole.

This thread, on Threads, outlines the details.

Sen Tommy Tuberville, for example, has really got a handle on gaming the system. If the examples shown are extrapolated, he could be pulling in up to an extra $1 million per MONTH with this fiddle.

This is obvious and blatant insider trading, frequently masked by the fact that the Reps and Senators working the market don't have to disclose their activities for a month and, if they miss that window, they get fined a huge $200US per breach.

Note that they ALL, Democrat, Republican, and Independant, seem to be at it.

Along with Australian and UK politicians to boot.

Hell, if you are caught not updating your record quick enough in Australia, you only have to smile, fill out the form, and say you're sorry.

Keir Starmer’s regime has forced out a Jewish senior staff member for organising protests for a ceasefire in Israel’s slaughter of Gazan civilians.

"Ben Soffa was Labour’s head of digital campaigns and also – never a secret, as he has frequently appeared in the media speaking for the group, as in the image above – national secretary of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC)..."

When British architect Edward Lutyens designed the Cenotaph war memorial in London, he resisted calls to make an overtly patriotic or religious monument and intentionally used a blank, minimalist design. This was so that everybody in the U.K. could mourn the dead of the first world war in their own way, and left that space open for the British public to project their often complex and ambiguous feelings towards the war.

Nuance. It used to be a thing.

British farmers have been accused of modern slavery over allegations of widespread exploitation of seasonal workers — which the Home Office tried to stop being made public.
The alleged mistreatment of migrants on seasonal workers’ visas is so stark that the government could be in breach of its obligations over the prevention of modern slavery, it has been claimed.
