Here's a little repost of my Meet the Author with the updated graphics for my rebrand!

Below the Heavens is a high fantasy webnovel series featuring a quick witted protagonist and a world and magic system crafted from scratch, incorporating east Asian culture and influences.

It is available for free via web browser or the app on Royal Road, as well as on Scribblehub! You can find those links along with my Discord, Patreon, and other social media in my bio.

I've also been a fan of the written word since I was young, which started to draw me towards crafting my own prose. Between these and the fact that I have a penchant for writing cool lines, I needed to create a world for all these things to come together. Some of the other hobbies I have outside of writing include Magic the Gathering, various genres of video games, and anime of course. Due to my full time job, I'm assisted in running my accounts by a social media manager. Most posts and comments will be handled by them, but any DMs, emails, or other personal communications will be responded to by myself personally."

    Tumblr post writing interpretation. Death of the author: Treating the author’s stated interpretation of their own work as merely one opinion among many, rather than the authoritative Word of God. Disappearance of the author: Treating the context and circumstances of the work’s authorship as entirely irrelevant with respect to its interpretation, as though the work had popped into existence fully formed just moments ago. Taxidermy of the author: Working backwards from a particular interpretation of the work to draw conclusions about what the context and circumstances of its authorship must have been. Undeath of the author: Holding the author personally responsible for every possible reading of their work, even ones they could not reasonably have anticipated at the time of its authorship. Frankenstein's Monster of the author: Drawing conclusions about authorial intent based on elements that are present only in subsequent adaptations by other authors. Weekend at Bernie’s of the author: Insisting that the author would personally endorse your interpretation of the work if they happened to be present. Comment by bugbastard | thought this was going to be a joke, but these are all very real things you see people do. Answer by prokopetz I'm never more serious than when I'm joking.

    Palestinian author Basim Khandaqji, who has been imprisoned by Israel since 2004, has been named as the winner of the 2024 International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) for his novel A Mask, the Colour of the Sky.

    Nabil Suleiman, Chair of the 2024 Judges, said: A Mask, the Colour of the Sky fuses the personal with the political in innovative ways. It ventures into experimenting with new narrative forms to explore three types of consciousness: that of the self, the Other, and the world. It dissects a complex, bitter reality of family fragmentation, displacement, genocide, and racism. The strands of history, myth, and the present day are delicately woven together in a narrative that pulses with compassion in the face of dehumanisation, and is stirred by a desire for freedom from oppression, both at an individual and societal level. A Mask, the Colour of the Sky declares love and friendship as central to human identity above all other affiliations. Professor Yasir Suleiman, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said: The protagonist in A Mask, the Colour of the Sky embarks on a journey in which the self, under the guise of the Other, faces that same Other in cleverly woven encounters, whilst on a mission to rescue Mary Magdalene from the narrative of The Da Vinci Code. An archaeology of victimhood emerges, and the trauma of modern Palestine unravels. A Palestinian woman from Haifa in Israel, who tenaciously holds to her own national narrative, helps the protagonist to revert to his unmasked self. After careful scene setting, the novel gathers pace quickly, ensnaring the reader in its galloping storylines and unexpected subtle humour.
