If I could make a Mac Classic Mini, here's what I'd put on it:

    1. Marathon
    2. Myst
    3. Escape Velocity
    4. Geneforge
    5. Bad Mojo
    6. Myth II: Soulblighter
    7. Prince of Persia
    8. Bugdom
    9. Oni
    10. SimCity
    11. The Uninvited
    12. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
    13. Deimos Rising
    14. Unreal
    15. Beyond Atlantis
    16. Circle of Blood
    17. Dark Vengeance
    18. Abuse
    19. Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle
    20. Power Pete

I think this generally represents the best of Classic Mac gaming. That is, Mac gaming as it existed before Mac OS X.

@atomicpoet I'd add Escape Velocity to that list

…but the monarch should be a cat. That way we can have cats on our money!

I picked up this cake that said "Congrats on Submitting" and the person at the bakery said "make sure you always support the bottom."

This was a cake congratulating someone on submitting a paper to a journal.

"News" websites with Russian ties are popping up as part of the Kremlin’s efforts to spread false and misleading narratives.

"The outlets have logos and names that evoke a bygone era of American journalism, an effort to create a semblance of authenticity."

"The purpose is not to fool a discerning reader into diving deeper into the website, let alone subscribing, Mr. Linvill said. The goal instead is to lend an aura of credibility to posts on social media spreading the disinformation."

If you are building a social application that is NOT a microblogging application, why would one choose ? What concrete advantages—not theoretical nor dependent on the rest of the world changing—does it give you?

    @LilahTovMoon@tech.lgbt avatar

@hrefna To me, ActivityPub is about being able to send information in a semi-similar manner to email. That could be micro-blogging or it could be something else.

Building something on top of ActivityPub tells your users "yes, I support the open internet and want to create something that lets you reach your audience where they choose to be reached." I would certainly trust a platform that implemented ActivityPub more, even if it were for a task that didn't have widespread adoption yet. I think trust is a very concrete advantage.

For example, there are reddit clones using ActivityPub. I'm much more likely to trust that it'll be a good platform.

ActivityPub is about sending information to people and people getting to read that information on the service they use - rather than forcing everyone into your thing. I trust that and trust that the ecosystem will continue to get better over the years as we build it together.

But I understand this might not feel concrete enough.

Watching this video, I'm struck by how important urbanism is as we age. The video is about loneliness and our apart-ness, but the city offers the possibility of connection.

Cities ideally offer environments where family and friends can live close by and it's easy to have low-key time together at home or various locations out.

Beyond that, the city offers exercise and stimulation. Even small things like walking to the shops keeps us healthy and mobile as we age. The array of things going on and buildings keep our minds fresh.

Individualism and self-reliance may work well in one's 30s and 40s, but they don't age well. We need environments for those who can't drive. We need environments that facilitate social interactions. And I worry that we've built a society where we keep ourselves apart - and that physical distance turns into social distance and loneliness, especially as we age.

A video of an old man walking alone with a cane to the grave of his wife. He walks back into town passing people and it seems like he's lonely. He enters a bar and sits down. A couple's dog comes up to him and sits with him and the couple joins him at his table and they get to chatting. The video ends saying, "There are no strangers here, only friends you haven't met yet," a quote by W.B. Yeats. It emphasizes our need for socialization and connection.

Landlords are being sued for colluding on rent increases. When more than 90% of units in large buildings have their rent controlled by the same software, it acts as a cartel to raise rents. If all landlords can coordinate rent hikes, it puts pricing power in their hands.

    "She's everything. He's Just Ken."

    Barbie = { Everything }

    Ken ∈ Everything

    ∴ Barbie is Ken

Given that Barbie is everything and that Ken is a member of the set Everything, we therefore know that Barbie is Ken.
