That's Dr.Dr.Dr.Dr.Dr.Dr.Dr. Banner to YOU!!

sincle354 ,

Humor usually never ends up as a path towards solution unless the PERSON EXPERIENCING IT makes fun of it. It's difference between laughing at someone and laughing with someone. It's why there's specific lemmy communities for ADHD and ADHD Women with their own specialized memes: They never accuse anyone of anything, and look at things from a kinder view. I have a boyfriend with ASD and the Autism memes fit to a T. It gives the self a sense of understanding.

But outsider humor? I see mentions of House and Zapp Brannigan and how it's basically a setup for a joke involving the legal system. No mention of struggles or legitimate efforts to fix or understand the self. These are not jokes made from love. They are for the explicit purpose of othering. I'm not going to walk up to a tall black guy to call him a "Basketball American" anymore than you should call sexsomnia a "prewritten legal defense".

Matt Mullenweg’s past form in the enshittification mines ( goblin.band )

Matt Mullenweg is the CEO of WordPress. He recently had a bout of extreme shitheadry and massively transphobic behaviour on his product fucking Tumblr of all the fucking places to be a transphobe. Nobody there is delighted with him at present. His own staff are publicly posting what a shithead he is on the official Tumblr staff...

Yes, Google search did it. And that's exactly why we allowed it to kill the internet - or rather, we killed the internet with it.

Older indexing systems relied on human labour, but they sorted and indexed the content by itself; Google instead did it by indirect means (the pagerank algorithm), because automated systems do not understand the content. At the same time that this allowed search to scale further, it also opened room to score higher in those indirect means without better content - SEO.

That's exactly what's happening here, again. LLMs also don't understand content (here's some proof), but they're really good to sort it. They work better than the pagerank algorithm, but they also open room for exploits that the text dubbed LLMO - ways to make your content more likely to be brought up by LLMs without improving it for human readers.

You mean the engine owned by the guy who refuses to abide to the GDPR, thinks anti-suicide messages would be bias, wants to use AI to "remove bias from news articles" (and from reviews)? https://d-shoot.net/kagi.html goes into it, it's a whole mess.

Right now all search engines suck, unfortunately.

they do everything and i mean everything to keep users on their website/apps. i recommend ublock origin + untrap combination, or you could use freetube and import your youtube subscriptions to it to have more privacy.

Texas AG threatens to prosecute doctors in emergency abortion ( www.reuters.com )

Paxton said in a letter that the order by District Court Judge Maya Guerra Gamble in Austin did not shield doctors from prosecution under all of Texas’s abortion laws, and that the woman, Kate Cox, had not shown she qualified for the medical exception to the state’s abortion ban....

And this woman also WANTS to have the baby. She and her husband were trying to get pregnant. Unfortunately, the fetus has abnormalities that mean it won’t survive. Without an abortion, she will need to wait until she hits term, have a C Section, and then have a dead baby.

Oh, and thanks to her medical history, she’ll likely be unable to have another pregnancy after that C-section. So it’s either give birth to a dead baby now and have no more or have an abortion now and (after she recovers) try to have another baby. Only one of these options might result in a baby that’s alive and it’s the option that includes abortion.

But Paxton will scream about how he’s “protecting the unborn baby” without caring that the fetus has a nearly zero chance of survival and without caring that the woman faces potential severe (possibly life threatening) medical complications if she’s forced to continue the pregnancy. He’ll force women to carry pregnancies to term even if it kills them!

As others have said, adblockers do still work on YouTube. Specifically, uBlock Origin works great on YouTube, as long as you don't use it with any other adblockers.

Also if you're using Chrome, stop using Chrome. uBlock Origin still works on Chrome most of the time but Google is doing their best to kill it off. Switch to Firefox.

    ISP put me behind NAT

I’m connected via a 4G modem. Got this setup about 3 years ago. In the beginning it was enough to look for the public IP (what’s my IP). The modem showed some sort of private ip in the ui. I’m running stuff at home (Homeassistant, Gitea,) and bought a domain and pointed it to my home IP via Cloudflare. After some time...

    CGNAT Carrier-Grade NAT
    DNS Domain Name Service/System
Git Popular version control system, primarily for code
HTTP Hypertext Transfer Protocol, the Web

why do some people really dislike google??

i don’t want to offend anyone, but some open source/privacy enthusiasts dislike google, but why?? google has made chromium, android, etc and most of the things they do are open source, and not only that, they also support creative commons media or public domain. i know the privacy concernes they may have, but they would never...

i know the privacy concernes they may have, but they would never do anything bad to you.

    Seriously?

    So;

    Google would never….

And that’s just the stuff I know about and could find quickly,

Happy chemical glands. That is almost correct, but the mechanism is very different.

Think of it like this, specifically for SSRIs and psychedelics: Different drugs will bind to receptors in the brain that would normally be triggered by serotonin. Psilocybin, DMT, serotonin, melatonin, etc, are all basically the same “shape” as tryptamine, a precursor to most of those. The effects of different chemicals finding a place in serotonin specific receptors that have the same shape can be wildly different than serotonin.

To use a car analogy, its like putting pure ethanol in your fuel tank instead of gasoline. They are both flammable liquids that you can pour into your car as fuel, but they burn at completely different rates and can alter performance significantly.

What this does as far as serotonin is concerned, is that serotonin is more widely available to the rest of your brain. In the case of antidepressants like SSRIs, they function the same way but only bind with specific receptors and don’t cause you to get high and trip. This allows serotonin to be more evenly used across the brain, in a manner of speaking.

As far as tolerance is concerned, different drugs will bind to receptors in different ways. Once you have “saturated” a receptor, it takes a while for it to be ready for another round. Psilocybin and even ketamine are being shown to be hundreds of times more potent than common SSRIs (in some ways), so it takes a while for those affected neurons to “recover”. It’s not that you have depleted your serotonin, it’s just that natural serotonin has fewer places to bind to.

It’s very important to realize this distinction. Combining SSRIs with other drugs can cause an extreme excess of serotonin in your noggin. Serotonin has no place to go so it builds up and causes a condition called serotonin syndrome. It’s not a good thing and can be fatal.

My explanation absolutely does not cover all the details. However, it is just supposed to be a shift in how you think about how these chemicals work.
