Have you ever had occasion to say "The book made me do it?"
For me it was a trip to Syria 18 years ago.
I read Les jardins de lumière by Amin Maalouf (translated as The Gardens of Light) several times between 1995 and 2005. The story is set in 3rd century Palmyra and I was so intrigued and fascinated by the place that I wanted to see it for myself.
O SON OF MAN! Upon the tree of effulgent glory I have hung for thee the choicest fruits, wherefore hast thou turned away and contented thyself with that which is less good? Return then unto that which is better for thee in the realm on high. #inspiration#quotes#bahai
I've seen a number of writers remark on the fact that it's stupid to wait around for inspiration to try to writing something good. This is of course true, because often inspired writing is, in retrospect, terrible, while lines you suffered over are quite good.
BUT, there's this other thing, which is that as a project wears on, there's inevitably less inspiration, more just carrying out the initial vision. This is where, to my mind, the real craft often comes in.
What's that old saying (Stephen King iirc) "Writing is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration."
In my limited experience, inspiration is great for getting down a bunch of random ideas, but the real work is weeding out the crud and the ones that don't fit with the others and then weaving what's left into something cohesive that hopefully still resonates with the reader.
That said, I'm a pretty crap writer, so what do I know? 🤷♂️

"Listen to the silence, it knows the way."
Pause and listen to the quiet moments. The vast expanse of the desert represents the unknown, while the figure symbolizes the courage to venture into the uncharted territories. The soft hues and cinematic lighting evoke feelings of wonder and curiosity, encouraging the observer to explore the mysteries hidden within the landscape.
