I like following accounts from different countries on here. I have not found very many (any really) accounts from Asian or African countries though. Are there not that many on Fedi yet, or am I just not finding the right ones?

Does anyone ever consider learning sign language not because they can't speak, but just because sometimes they don't want to? Or don't feel up to it?

I kind of miss sometimes how in the old place, random celebrities would sometimes pop up in my mentions (even some of the ones I didn't know were celebrities and had to look up) 🤪

JeremyMallin OP ,
@JeremyMallin@autistics.life avatar

I often have a very different idea of who is a celebrity than most people have.

Examples: that physicist whose books I've read, the managing editor of that scientific journal I've heard of, that one (more than one actually) stand-up comedian that no one has ever heard of, that obscure author whose books I love, et al.

I wonder if that's an autism thing?

I finished season one of A Kind Of Spark. Thank you everyone for recommending it. It is excellent and extremely relatable.

Also. It's based on a book by Elle McNicoll if anyone is interested.

I believe that autistic burnout is something that other people do to us rather than something we do to ourselves.

It's not simply that we mask too much or work too hard; society requires us to do those things. The choice is not ours.

Those are not the only things that cause burnout. Bigotry and abuse from others also causes burnout. Constant sensory Hell also causes burnout. Anything that keeps us out of equilibrium causes burnout.

I've seen people use the NPR@press.coop address.

For the sake of people who don't know, NPR@press.coop is a bot. The messages sent to that address are not read by anyone. I presume they are immediately discarded.

I've defederated from the entire press.coop site because it is just a collection of bots.

I am in favor of the press being in the fediverse, but only if they are here fully, and can answer our messages.

JeremyMallin ,
@JeremyMallin@autistics.life avatar

@yourautisticlife @actuallyautistic
I would prefer accounts with actual humans who can respond and be responded to, but I'm ok with bots as a lesser substitute as long as we can still be kept up to date on a variety of topics by reasonably reputable sources.

I'm mildly curious about the inner workings of Activity Pub.

If someone has a hashtag in a single post and a million people repost that same post, does that make that hashtag trend?

Or does it have to be a million distinct and separate posts that all use that hashtag?

Ie. Do reposts affect it?

JeremyMallin , to ActuallyAutistic group
@JeremyMallin@autistics.life avatar

I originally thought the hashtag ActuallyAutistic was specifically that in part because many of us (as I do) overuse the word "actually".—I learned a long time ago its true origin and meaning though.

I was curious (and still am) what other words we tend to overuse. For me I've come up with these so far:

• actually
• indeed
• fascinating
• interesting

Are there any other common ones?

For the record, I very often do recognize asymmetries others don't.
