I'm 31 year-old award-winning author and poet that currently is focused on writing essays about anime and manga these days. I also watched Groundhog Day once a day, every day, to celebrate the movie's 30th anniversary.

You'd better realize disability justice, Palestinian liberation, and SO many more causes are all tied together in this one movement and show solidarity.

Without the Black Panthers, we disabled people would not have succeeded in this occupation of a federal building.

These same people also called for the liberation of Palestinians. From a press conference in 1970, “We support the Palestinian’s just struggle for liberation one hundred percent. We will go on doing this, and we would like for all of the progressive people of the world to join in our ranks in order to make a world in which all people can live."

Even back then, people claimed these Black folks were "racists in reverse" and called them antisemitic. This pattern would continue to be used to silence people. Hell, remember when the BLM movement came under fire for its support of Palestine while Palestinians painted murals of George Floyd?

When you come to realize Black people have higher rates of Disability than the white population because of garbage our police state puts them through, you should start to get it. We ALL must fight against colonizers across the world.

P.S. Let's not forget when Netanyahu himself sent cops to beat and arrest disabled protestors in Israel who were occupying roads, buildings, and even set up a one week encampment at one point, to fight for basic disability rights from 2017 to 2019.

Oh wait, did you never hear of the Disabled Panthers movement in Israel? Wonder why that got hushed up! Anyways, did you know the NYPD trains with the IDF? Who gave them the idea to beat folks occupying buildings and starting encampments do ya think, was it the guy calling for cops to be even more brutal to protestors this very week?

In all seriousness, all of these movements are the same movement in the end. We all want liberation, justice, and fair treatment. We're all tired of fascist police states taking that from us. Remember the 3.5% rule and let us all be a part of those numbers together to liberate the world!

I've never been one to care about the Oscars but I find myself thinking of how many rich attendees were forced to walk past protestors fighting to free Palestine and see an immediate ceasefire.

We stood in solidarity with their protest when they went on strike while they crossed our picket line... Food for thought.

Too many Americans seem to use as an excuse for a car-centric infrastructure.

"Some people will not be physically able to use . Therefore, there is no point in developing bicycle-friendly urban infrastructure!"

Look, no one is saying that all cars should be banned forever. For those who really cannot get around without a car, this should still be an option.

But pointing out that American cities are deeply locked into a car-centric infrastructure is not . We should all strive to give our cities more alternatives for transportation infrastructure - whether the people using it are disabled or not.

And I must say that requiring everyone to use car - like most American urban regions are doing - is in effect a massive form of discrimination against the poor. In such areas, you must own a car to be a functional member of society, and spend the money, time, and effort to maintain it.

And if you are unable to do so, society will shunt you out.

Anyone on here who has been brave enough to start an OwnCast server...

I've never done this before but have an old Chromebook I could convert into a server. If I did so, would it likely be strong enough to hold up to occasional streaming endeavors or nah? I'd mostly be sharing some of my physical media with folks to watch together.

And look, I know instances here can be iffy on funding now and then, but why send folks to the place that has actively said they don't have enough money to function and will cease existing if one person stops basically gifting huge numbers so they can function?

Perhaps we should suggest stable options for people so they are less likely to need to move again?

This is a video of two women wearing hijab being barred from entry from an event with Kamala Harris hosted by Democrats to "Get Out The Vote."

These two women RSVP'd for the event, checked in, and were even given wristbands before being denied entry after waiting in line.

Democrats and liberals, no matter what Biden says about how Trump wants to institute Muslim bans in the US, your own damn party is trying to deny these people access to political forums.

Will you continue to support this so long as you get to feel comfortable, or will you stand up alongside them?

In this video, two women are stopped by a man and singled out. They are denied entry into the event and given no reason, but as they are the only people denied entry and are the only people wearing hijab, this seems to be the only logical reason they were denied entry.

I know everyone says this about Mastodon or whatever but seriously, figuring out an instance to join on PeerTube is actually extremely difficult. And they seem so expensive to run that I can't imagine they are getting by as well as smaller instances here.

How do I find an instance to join that I know is secure and will be here a long time, not just vanishing overnight?

Also, don't anyone dare suggest I just make my own instance. I don't have a heckin server just lying around or anything like that.

I dunno, I'm just seeing for sure the issues faced with trying to get the platform off the ground right now. If I'm struggling this hard to even find a place I can feel confident in joining and that suits what I want to post, there's very little chance an already established YouTuber is making the switch.

@kinyutaka Very much so and it makes so much sense. A large dedicated community to a topic with people ready to avidly support and consume content there seems necessary for a good PeerTube instance to thrive.

We don't have that here yet for anime folks, or just people that want to talk about animated content. Not yet it seems.

So just to make sure I completely understand, if I were to focus on making videos for PeerTube, if the instance I posted them to went down, would they vanish forever? Can I move over whatever kind of followers I have like we do on Mastodon?

I keep being interested in supporting something that isn't YouTube for obvious reasons, but I lack the capacity remotely to run my own instance in terms of knowledge and I don't want to risk building something up for it to just potentially vanish forever.

@Mrfunkedude That is very handy to know. This means even keeping up a YouTube on private (so there's little reason for the site to bother you) could aid in recovery as a backup.

Sat down for the yearly tradition of enjoying The Muppet Christmas Carol today.

Many families will watch a version of this classic tale this year and see how one person taking the time to care about a disabled child, Tiny Tim, resulted in deeply bettering his life.

I am struck by the irony that they will do so having not socially isolated, worn masks, or done anything else to protect and support the disabled people in their own communities. That they may be watching this while immunocompromised relatives are forced to be alone over the holidays because of these acts of selfishness.

They will think they are better than Ebenezer Scrooge before he is visited by those spirits while being in dire need of a visit themselves.

Would someone who uses maybe be able to answer a question? Big platforms like are theoretically cutting out adult content due to payment processors not wanting to be a part of it, right?

How does a platform like Liberapay avoid this becoming a future issue? With a lot of kink artists being suddenly removed from Patreon very recently in a purge, I'm curious if I should be telling people Liberapay is the right alternative they'll be safe on forever.

Being laid off and still trying to find a job in journalism that'll even pay my rent sucks but...

I was unsure how to get my partner a gift for the holidays but figured at worse, I could try to sew something. When I asked in some community spaces about fabric scraps I got such an outpouring of positivity I honestly felt warm inside!

I needed this little reminder of human kindness right around now honestly. Now I can make something truly special for my partner!

I'm disabled, you're asking me to vote for the guy who promised to care about a pandemic then decided the proper policy was for me to just shut up and die.

I am immunocompromised and will have to literally risk my life to vote cuz Biden lied about his policies surrounding disabled people.

You can't scare certain people with "it will get so much more worse" when the president we got is laying out the perfect path for worse to happen when his unpopular genocidal ass leaves office (even if it's in four more years).

I'm dying, many of my friends have already died, children are getting shot, starving, and dying, here and abroad. And the Democratic party ain't doing actual shit to stop it!

    These sites keep doing this rapidly, with almost zero notice too. They want to make sure folks can't network as easily and humiliate them like they did at The Escapist. Or hell, all the other places that keep bringing back independent journalism after massive layoffs.

    I hope we'll see some of these folks start similar projects!
