This is also why testing is important. Speaking of which, when was the last time you tested your backups?

slazer2au ,

Good on ya kiddo. If you want we can go to the park and play some catch after dinner.

I absolutely love milkshakes. I just wish they loved me more.

Is this what god feels like?

@showerthoughts

slazer2au ,

Check the pack it should give you a recommended tablet limit. The ones I get are 1 glass of milk wich makes it fine for 99% of things.

It might be milkshakes bring all the boys to your yard and you need an additional tablet.

slazer2au ,

That sounds like something else. Never had vomiting caused by lactose intolerance before

slazer2au ,

You get out of algorithms what you put into them.

My Facebook feed is full of web comics and memes. My twatter feed is full of information security because that is what I follow.

If someone is posting crap you don't like unfollow/unfriend them. Nothing says you have to have them on your feed.

slazer2au ,

Just think how bigger it would be if they didn't block over 170 countries from buying it.

What are things considered romantic, to be avoided in a relationship?

My partner and I just had a talk about it. Basically, she celebrated her birthday today. I was on her party, and it was fun, but I left after around 2 hours to get home and relax a bit. After I arrived, a friend of mine texted me and asked me if I wanted to go to a lake and see the sunset. I agreed, we went to the lake and went...

slazer2au ,

Would you plan it in secret to suprise your partner. That is how I classify a romantic moment.

slazer2au OP ,

Quite good episode.

The secret task was amazing and they all managed to score.

Nick was surprisingly good at the live task.

The mannequin task brought back memories of Phill Wang's costume from an earlier season.

slazer2au OP ,

I know right.

slazer2au ,

You are going about this the wrong way. The business doesn't care about urgency unless it effects their bottom line. Ask any IT person how many times they have had to work stupid hours to fix something a 5 figure purchase would prevent but now the outage is costing then 6 figures.

Approach this from a business mindset. Total cost of ownership, reducing costs, meeting government emission reduction targets.

Specifically look at how much the org spends on reimbursement of fuel and compare it to the cost of electricity.

slazer2au ,

Extra long weekend for me.

Sat birthday party.
Sun nothing.
Mon public holiday.
Tues day off work.
Wed catching up with my sister while she is in the same hemisphere.
Thurs back to work.

Adnausem

It is built on top of unlock origin and will silently click on the ads in the background to mess with your digital footprint while costing advertisers money who use pay per click.

slazer2au ,

only the URL is loaded.

https://github.com/dhowe/AdNauseam/wiki/FAQ#how-does-adnauseam-click-ads

How does AdNauseam "click Ads"?
AdNauseam 'clicks' Ads by issuing an HTTP request to the URL to which they lead. In current versions the is done via an XMLHttpRequest (or AJAX request) issued in a background process. This lightweight request signals a 'click' on the server responsible for the Ad, but does so without opening any additional windows or pages on your computer. Further it allows AdNauseam to safely receive and discard the resulting response data, rather than executing it in the browser, thus preventing a range of potential security problems (ransomware, rogue Javascript or Flash code, XSS-attacks, etc.) caused by malfunctioning or malicious Ads. Although it is completely safe, AdNauseam's clicking behaviour can be de-activated in the settings panel.

slazer2au ,

by the look of it, yes it can.

slazer2au ,

I think it is when a competitor does it in an attempt to make the advertiser lose money.

slazer2au ,

Ooof, had to double check the community on that one.

slazer2au ,

Check out Ask This Old House. Home improvement show that is on YouTube in snips showing how to do stuff from a home owners pov.

Qualified experts of Lemmy, do people believe you when you answer questions in your field?

The internet has made a lot of people armchair experts happy to offer their perspective with a degree of certainty, without doing the work to identify gaps in their knowledge. Often the mark of genuine expertise is knowing the limitations of your knowledge....

slazer2au ,

Yes. Because if they don't believe me the internet breaks.

What file format do you store your media in?

Hello! I recently listened to a podcast that talked about how storing media files in .av1 format is very efficient and storage-friendly. I've been storing my files in .mkv format, but now I'm considering using Handbrake or a similar service to convert all my video files to .av1 if it's more compressed than .mkv. So;...

slazer2au ,

In whichever format it came in. If someone has a guide on how to convert from whatever to x264/5 with minimal loss it would be appreciated.

When I try with hand break the quality dips to much to not make the conversion worth it.

What is the most appropriate way of tracking web traffic?

I have my personal blog, made with Hugo and hosted on GitHub pages. Initially I did not turn on any kind of web tracking / web analytics, because I do not like tracking at all. But I want to make my blog better and to achieve it, I need a feedback loop about traffic. For example, what are the most popular publications, or how...

slazer2au ,

How are you on self hosting something? You could give a couple of these a try. Data stays with you so you get to decide how much to track.

Having to wait for the porn, one row at a time.

The issue is, I'm early in my career and have never dabbled in contract work. They haven't been specific about what they want to contract me for as well, just asked me for an hourly rate

In that case you have some required viewing. Fuck you, Pay me

slazer2au ,

As long as both ends are a matching pair you should be ok. Of they ran single mode fibre use single mode sfps.

Check out FS.com

Go to your settings and hit that export button, then on your new instance use the import button to sub back to everything

slazer2au ,

I don't think those can change.

Assuming a John Constantine magic event doesn't happen and the US doesn't just poof out of existence. Europe will carry on doing what it does most nations have their own national standards which mimic US standards. I suspect ISO may pickup some of the slack but not everything.
Other orgs will step up and carry on the work of those orgs that have gone missing

The council was correct to reject Shepard's claims about Eden Prime. The word of a dock worker isn't good enough when everyone is running around with Omi Tools that can record shit.

Android user.

I used Liftoff until it broke with the API change a couple months back. The Dev has been AFK looking after twin kids. Hope they are going well.

Tried Thunder for a while but it kept crashing or forgetting what post I was looking at when switching between apps.

Using Voyager now and I am quite happy with it. I miss the All servers you have accounts with feed view from Liftoff but that is not a biggie.

Certification for closed source software

Is there any type of third-party certification for closed source software, similar to how we have ISO9001 for quality management? I'd prefer companies provide their software as open source, however I can imagine cases where the software genuinely doesn't do anything malicious but might still contain trade secrets that the author...

slazer2au ,

I don't think so or 27001 cover software. It is more internal security controls, segmentation, and breaking responsibilities into specific roles.

slazer2au ,

Unless it is intentional than the controller mean nothing.
