marking the next step in Republicans’ war on education.
This line alone is actually making me feel really depressed now.
I'm not the smartest person in the world, but I would absolutely hate being in a part of the world where there is a party that actively works to dismantle people's branch towards being better educated.
No, you must not be too smart or else you're against them. Fucking braindead Texas.
Can you imagine if their practice was nationally adopted? You'd have a lot of people going around saying "I don't know" when asked if they knew directions to somewhere. People having angry debates with another because they were asked about how much salt was applied to a piece of meat. People tearing down signs because they didn't understand them.
I mean, we DO have these people, but not the entire population of them.

There is that nvidia open source thing that recently happened. Still think that's going to break down some doors that Linux gamers have long wanted to see. Like to be able to run their Linux OSes with drivers to their GPUs from Nvidia and play games that way.
Ubuntu and it's spin-offs are really are as close as we're ever going to get to a full, user-friendly Linux OS. At least one that isn't going to scare off as many people.
It's just when you tell people the part where you have to keep track of some of the software that they use through the terminal, that's when you start seeing them trickle off back to Windows.
Because the average user doesn't have the patience, time or know-how to utilize commands in a terminal. If you plopped them down during the era where DOS was prominent, they'd be so lost and be begging for a UI to handle everything.
And yes you'll still need to use the terminal for more than just updating and installing software. Kinda routes back to my problem in regards to transitioning from one OS to another.
Oh cool, so like, piece of shit corporations can just mow down many more forests, rainforests and shit under the guise "but but we got this thing from scientists where we can replace the trees with these cages!". Fucking hell.
I praise the breakthrough but I don't think it's going to be carried out as intended.
The internet itself by and large, will not be toxic. Do you just open your browser one day and you're faced with toxicity? No, you're not. You have the options as to where to go, what to watch, what or who to interact with. It has always been this way and will continue to be this way.
It's always been the people's choice to decide to be assholes to each other at a given. For their own amusement. For their own self-serving sense of purpose. For whatever reason that they feel they need to do it. I don't think social media began with the intent to get as out of control as it is right now. They all started as honest ideas with one thing in mind - connect people with people.
And they've succeeded. To regard social media as just toxic, is to imply that toxicity never existed online before they became more of a thing. Toxicity has long existed before them. They were in the chat rooms we frequented. They were on the messengers because of us allowing them to be on them. They were on the forums when allowed to register.
Problematic people has always been around and unfortunately, will continue to be around. It's just the volume of them has amplified ever since they realized the day that they can take advantage of what anonymity, little of big, that they have and practically get away with even making people kill themselves until cyber bullying laws were a thing because I'm pretty sure that has happened in the past as well.
Today, a bunch of people on my Mastodon feed are making declarations about somebody apparently flying a flag upside down, and this apparently has something to do with the New York Times being terrible....
The House delivered a rebuke to President Joe Biden Thursday for pausing a shipment of bombs to Israel, passing legislation that seeks to force the weapons transfer as Republicans worked to highlight Democratic divisions over the Israel-Hamas war....
Went to Google Play to complain about Hulu. I noticed Google advertising that over 300 reviews had the verbatim quote "watch and movies that you love". It's always confusing that buggy corporate apps have >95% 5 star reviews until you see that the majority are just completely fake, and no one cares or is doing anything about it.
There are people who are hired specifically to pad reviews. They're easy to spot though. Every 5 star review reads exactly the same even if it's different wording.
"This app changed my life!"
"I was looking for so long to have an app like this so I'm happy this app exists!"
"This app is so easy to use and install, I don't understand why people are complaining about it"
If you want true honesty, read some of the 3 star reviews and below.
My immediate interpretation was "...did she get involved in some copyright lawsuits against pirates?". The answer is inconclusive because I couldn't find any search results that had her name plastered or referenced in any copyright/pirate cases.
However I did discover that she's the CEO of another company called the Markup, which basically is just a nonprofit newsroom that fact-checks some reports. So I suppose she's just someone who studies law on media to get a better understanding if I'm reading into that, but it's such a vague term to use if you're not like a practicing lawyer that specializes in media like copyright. I don't know, she failed to post any credentials other than declaring a position.
Yeah but they also use the word 'commercialize' which could very well mean that they're looking to get something out from this. How much and who's profiting is what we don't know yet but it is a concern.
I've been reluctant on getting chromebooks because I know how much Google loves to encompass everyone into it's always-online, data farming ecosystem. Well I know that some select Chromebook models allow Linux to be installed on them to the point of telling ChromeOS to fuck off....
If he's spent $44 Billion on it, you can rest assure he's not letting it go that easily unless he sees more than half of that come back from a buyer. And the only way he'll see that money is if Apple or Microsoft will bother with it, which they won't.
My pick is Five Finger Death Punch and the obvious answer is Ivan Moody. The guy radiates that alpha-male wannabe energy and it definitely rings through all of the songs he has written and performed with this band. The guy is just a prick and a self-victimizing asshole....
The very thing so many Tool fans aspire to be, that project this 'Third-Eye' that they claim to have and see things that they claim nobody else can see or express.
They say very intelligent things like "you know, the world sucks and the two-party system is destroying us".
Badass instrumentals. Why the fuck is the vocalist a growling cookie monster? Can't even comprehend a single fucking word he's "singing" and yet the song somehow has lyrics. I can barely, BARELY tolerate Cannibal Corpse for the reason that I can comprehend the vocalist.
This isn't about immediately filtered content, like the disgusting DuffMan George Floyd meme, or Holocaust denial. That's pretty well kept in check by mod tools. I'm also not talking about cogent or even pointed political discussion....
I always suspect a lot of them are coming from Reddit to take their daily dump on something to discourage others from using. All in hopes that we come back to Reddit so that they can gaslight, cry to mods and have us banned again just for their own amusement.
Yeah they say that the internet in general can produce these kinds of people from all corners, but you do notice by behavior. If it isn't Reddit, it's got to be Twitter. One of the two, they're the most rabid of the bunch that would resort to these kind of things because they don't lead any productive lives.
I use ProtonMail as my primary e-mail client. For some reason, I cannot get to ProtonMail to verify an e-mail that I used to register elsewhere. I keep getting the hourglass on Firefox. So I go a try Chrome and it's the same deal....
I cleaned the cache like 2 or 3 days ago. Even then, because of my browsing habit that would've made it go to a gig again, ProtonMail still loaded fine.
And not 2 minutes longer after posting this - ProtonMail worked. I don't know sometimes, I just don't with these things.
Wish I had known this beforehand in like several accounts I've had with that shit-ass place.
Then again, it's likely that Reddit has shit archived because Spez is one of them data-farmers like Mark is. Nothing is truly deleted from their sites. It's just archived.
There's been lots of evidence that proves this, because people have dug up old comments, even down to who posted it originally. Then, even if your account is deleted, your comment body is still there, I know because I've deleted an account and checked back where I was before.
I'm not sure what can be brought to Winamp that'll make it better through open source. Maybe it'll be a default alternative for Linux distros? That'd be cool.
But, Winamp to me is just a program I use that plays video game soundtracks that are different formats aren't MP3 or WAV. Like Super Nintendo with .SPC for example.
AIMP has predominantly taken the mantle on my system as default media player, it's just feature rich and long won me over the day my PC suddenly rebooted and the song I was playing was just on pause with that program! Winamp couldn't do this, whenever I re-opened it, song stopped playing entirely, gotta play it again.
In actuality - Adam Sandler needs $XX Million dollars because Netflix has poor taste in talent and would be willing to sacrifice at least 20 shows to be pulled from it's cycle to make this work.
I remember a song that still rings in my mind to this day and I remember watching it way back when MuchMusic existed on cable in my country. I just don't know the lyrics, I don't know the band. The only vivid thing I remember was parts of it's music video and I tried going off on that.
With the way search engines are today, it's hard to find results when all you've got is vague details. It sucks even more when you know exactly what you're talking about but the search engine drags in irrelevant contexts to what you're looking for.
I was only ever once able to find another seemingly lost track I heard of that I also only knew the sound but nothing of the lyrics or band. The only way I found that was through a lyric site, that I also forgot about. It was this industrial song that turned out to be 'War' by Wumpscut.
voters had an unenviable choice of congressional candidates in the GOP primary Tuesday: a guy who stormed the Capitol on January 6, or an incumbent who, after having to evacuate the Capitol during the riot, went back to vote against certifying the election. Voters chose the incumbent.
For some reason I've just never liked Spider-Man. He comes off as a whiney, ignorant child that never seems to grow up or mature despite everything he goes through. I love a good coming of age story, but he just never seems to become an adult.
Yeah, out of all of the superheroes that have the spotlight, Hulk's is one I just don't find as special as others. His stories are all bland and limited. His rogue gallery of opponents aren't even challenging because he easily defeats all of them and there are so few that were memorable.
And the way his powers work is laughable, because the only way he ever gets strong is just by being angrier? It's totally unimaginative and soundingly lazy. Like it sounds thought of by some angry internet user who dreams of getting angry and strong to "git back at them internet bullies!" kind of deal.
I hated how he became the symbol now of people who're desperately quirky. You couldn't throw a damn rock without it hitting some average person who closely associates with Deadpool because "he's like me! I say and do random shit for the lulz and so does he and that's all foonay!".
And yes he is fucking obnoxious to the nth degree, he isn't creatively written or crafty with his wits. People just think "oh Deadpool is totally the guy who'd ride a unicorn into battle....BECAUSE IT'S DEADPOOL! HAW HAW HAW!!". Like I don't think I want Deadpool to be overly serious or edgy, I just want him to be written not in the way he is now. I just feel there could be more there because he's not a character anymore - he's noise. Loud and obnoxious noise.
He's just a dude that was made of perfection. Nothing can go too wrong for him. Perfectly strong. Perfectly sound. Perfectly everything.
Yes I know and am aware of the arcs he's been in where writers have tried to give Superman internal challenges and struggles about who he is as a superhero. But it's like he's going to bounce back from it all anyways because he's walking perfection.
That's the other thing too - who is this guy even saving? Most of the times, his stories are about saving himself from himself. He's achieved that at least a couple times but they were all non-canon yet did make for interesting arcs for a while.
Then there's Betty but she long has stopped being a main factor.
All that Hulk has turned into now is just that - "Who we smashing today?"
For example, I sometimes do want to vote for Trump. Not because I like the man. Not because I find him as a credible leader, in fact, he's a murderer in my eyes by negligence because of his handling of the 2020 COVID Pandemic....
This is like the 7th or so boring reply that is focusing entirely on trump. You're more triggered by me mentioning Trump at all, that you forget there's a fucking question that was asked.
By the way, in case you idiots don't get it, the reason I'm not directly responding to you anymore is that I've long blocked you. I see your spiteful little downvotes, oh boo-hoo, don't care. Such a reddit thing to do. I see notifications but I clear them because I know you've got nothing useful to say anymore besides how much you've allowed Trump to live rent free in your head.

Like, it's like trying to get people to care about every single charity out there to donate to. We just do not have that money to throw around, otherwise we could.
We can't truly care about every single cause in the world because that'd be sacrificing our personal self-care and the care of others in our circles. If we do, we'll just fall further down in our pits to where it'll be inescapable where beforehand, we barely kept our head above water.
And Americans need to be fighting more on their home turf for a change. We can't change things over in countries that are across vast oceans with different policies, with different cultures, different ways of life .etc
