Are you aware of harmful practices by companies under the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act?
We've launched whistleblower tools to report violations of obligations by Very Large Online Platforms, Search Engines and gatekeepers under the #DSA and #DMA.
This is why we have conducted a stress test to ensure the readiness of Very Large Online Platforms to counter potential manipulation and interference using the tools provided by the Digital Services Act.
It addressed multiple scenarios, including:
⚠ Information manipulation via deep fakes, other AI uses
⚠ Attempts of suppression of voices
⚠ Intentional spread of false information
⚠ Online incitement to violence
⚠️ Opening of formal proceedings against TikTok under the Digital Services Act.
We are concerned that TikTok has launched the "Task and Reward Program" of TikTok Lite without conducting a diligent assessment of the risks it entails.
We suspect an infringement of the #DSA, and we consider that there are risks of serious damage for the mental health of users.
Therefore, we have communicated to TikTok our intention to suspend the TikTok Lite rewards programme in the EU.
Into #ttrpgs since the mid-90s, mostly playing #osr-style #dnd, #callofcthulhu, #shadowrun, #dsa, #harnworld, but open to others.
I write (not as often as I want) and paint (even less), and post moody b/w photos on my pixelfed.
In IT and might talk about some obscure computer stuff.
Online platforms must be accountable for ensuring safer, more transparent online spaces.
As of next week, adult entertainment platforms Pornhub, Stripchat and Xvideos will have to comply with the most stringent obligations under the Digital Services Act, including:
Submitting risk assessment reports
Putting in place mitigation measures to address systemic risks
Complying with additional transparency obligations
Meanwhile disastrous EU regulation like #uploadfilters, #linktax and the #DSA primarly serve to weaken smaller companies and actors, leading to an even worse environment for any and and all european digital businesses.
Please do us a favour and stop regulating... your regulation in the last 15 years only made my life as a user and as a citizen worse.
📝 Very happy to put our DSA Guide for Fediverse Services online today!
We get a lot of questions about the EU's Digital Services Act and the potential impact on Fediverse servers, so we partnered with Tremau - DSA experts - to break down when the law applies, when it doesn't, and practical guidance for Fedi admins who want to meet the requirements.
However, I recently decided to quit my account on a Dutch "tech nerd" site (https://tweakers.net/ ) after ridiculous mismoderation of my reactions (followed by the type of pointless "discussion" you also ran into). IMO this is a pity because I made a lot of in-depth and critical contributions to that site (often upvoted, but also misread, misinderstood, or against common opinion and heavily downvoted). It makes me think of the title of an old song called "We fade to grey" (*) (by "Visage").
Like most people, I hate fake news. But who gets to decide the criteria?
At what point does combating fake news, by silencing opinions (in particular when based on provided or deducable facts), become censorship, and/or increase polarization (*)?
They seek to obtain #research access to internal #Microsoft data to check whether and how the company is making sure its not-so-intelligent #AI#Copilot isn't bullshitting around in dangerous ways.
EU ermittelt gegen TikTok wegen mangelnden Jugendschutzes
TikTok erreicht Millionen Kinder und Jugendliche. Doch offenbar tut das Unternehmen nicht genug, um diese vor unangemessenen Inhalten oder Abhängigkeit zu schützen. Nun ermittelt die EU.
The Internet must serve people – not the other way around.
The Digital Service Act is here to ensure it.
It covers different types and sizes of online services, wherever they are based, setting strict rules including:
✔ Reporting for illegal and inappropriate content
✔ Better protection of privacy
✔ Clear and concise terms & conditions
✔ No targeted advertising for children
This Safer Internet Day, rest assured we stay ready to enforce them.
If it isn't the sheriff, it's the Digital Services Act.
Under the Digital Services Act, we requested 17 very large online platforms and search engines to provide more information on the measures taken to give eligible researchers access to publicly available data on their online interface without undue delay.
Access to this data ensures accountability and public scrutiny of platforms’ policies.
You discovered a gift idea on your favourite social media;
You found it at the best price online;
You probably wanted to pay for it instantly.
We have been busy wrapping new initiatives to help you and your dear ones make your online experience better with:

👾 the proposal for #instantpayments, for citizens, businesses to transfer euros within ten seconds – at no extra cost
Day 3 of non-Covid-19 illness. It could be RSV (or a "mysterious" type of flu or cold). Yesterday, the homeless medical van kept telling me to "come back later," which I guess is how NYC is fudging the disease counts. And, come January, the #DSA, #WFP, #PSL are going to be begging us to sign-up to canvass, phone bank, and carry #BallotPetitions for Democrats ! #DemExit2024#CovidIsNotOver
Today, we sent requests for information under the #DSA to Apple and Google.
We are asking them for more information on how they have diligently identified any systemic risks concerning the App Store and Google Play.
We also seek more information on their compliance with the rules applicable to online marketplaces and transparency related to recommender systems and online advertisements.
Incorrect, incomplete or misleading information can lead to fines.
📢 "One Day in Content Moderation". How much content do social platforms remove and downrank in one day – and why? We have looked in the new billion-item "EU Transparency database". Our new report / blog post from @pgmt@zemki
Hallo liebe #KleineHelden & #pnpde Community.
Geht euch die #Dunkelheit auch so auf den Keks?
Gut wenn man da Dunkelsicht hat!
Nutzt ihr diesen Vorteil bei euch oft und was habt ihr schon alles erspähen können?
Actors #naming in EU laws:
"The end user and recipient of the service are both natural and legal persons using a certain service. However, the #DSA recipient of the service can be a person acting in a personal or commercial/professional capacity whereas the #DMA end user can only be a person acting in a personal capacity."
