The #Republican bill was designed to divide #Democrats & embarrass #POTUS#Biden, & had no chance of passing the #Senate or becoming #law. But w/so many #Republicans off campus demonstrating their fealty to #Trump, they left open the possibility that the party’s own messaging bill gets defeated. Democratic leaders in the #House had advised their members to vote “no,” calling the measure “another partisan stunt by Extreme #MAGA Republicans who are determined to hurt President Biden politically.”
I’ve said this before but apparently it hasn’t sunk in but if you say “Biden has lost my vote”, don’t expect anyone to listen to you or be surprised he’s not out gunning for it. The election is 6 months out. If there’s no way you’re voting for him, nobody fucking cares what you want.
You can enjoy likely a 7-2 or 8-1 conservative SCOTUS that will be grinding down our rights for the next generation or three. Enjoy that.

When #TheOrangeMenace was first impeached, the OLC ("Office of Legal Council") claimed sitting presidents can't be prosecuted.
#Mueller said that if that's the case, then he "absolutely can be prosecuted upon leaving office". Presumably, it was the only check left to stop a #Potus from breaking the law while in office.
NOW, his lawyers are trying to argue he can't be prosecuted AFTER leaving office either for things he did while potus. 😒 #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw

Book review #25 for 2024 is Scott S Greenberger's The Unexpected President: The Life and Times of Chester A Arthur. A good biography of the 21st President of the United States. His reputation, and the reason for Garfield's murderer, created a cloud over Arthur's assumption of the presidency. ☕☕☕☕review
@w7voa I’m curious about what Tweets by Mr Trump they might use as evidence. Trump had control of the #POTUS account on Twitter, which is where the President of the USA tweets. But he did most of his tweeting/ranting from his personal account. Could be able to argue that those tweets from his personal account does not fall under the immunity claim as being from the President. Just a chain of thought going on in my head now.

Book review #21 for 2024 is Edward P. Crapol's John Tyler, the Accidental President. I think that seeing the 1840's era Presidents getting more critical looks is good for the study of American History in general and presidential history in particular. Book review #20 for 2024 is Robert Caro's The Passage of Power: The Years of Lyndon Johnson. The first volume of this series, The Path to Power began a 40 plus year reading journey of every American President, that, with exception of POTUS 46 and 45, has continued to this day. This volume of Caro's series focuses on the 1960 election and up to the spring of 1964. Well written and moving.

Why are we allowing Israel to maintain its strategy of death and destruction in Gaza?
In supplying more military aid, we are relieving Israel of any strategic or moral responsibility to find an alternative to the horrific course it’s on.
The fact that you can follow the president of the United States (@potus) from your Mastodon account instead of being forced to have an X or Threads account for it is a huge W in my book. Of course our team is fully available to help if they'd want to set up Mastodon on whitehouse.gov. I believe governments should not rely on 3rd party platforms to connect with their constituents.
...except he is not on the fediverse. He's on threads.net, which is a walled garden you can't interact with, and the content the president's PR flacks will post there is hardly unique. I mean, I could set up a script that reposts the whitehiuse.gov RSS feed to mastodon with a #potus tag. Would that mean the president is "on" mastodon?
