It's that time of year again folks: time to take the annual Zend PHP Landscape survey!

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MPPCXBS

This survey helps paint a picture of the PHP ecosystem, particularly how it pertains to how and where organizations deploy PHP applications, and the challenges they face in doing so. Each year, Zend donates to orgs that promote diversity in software dev, based on how many survey results we get.

Please take time to fill out the survey today!

“Any new effort for the social web should clarify the threat model and propose mitigations so that the open social web can handle high-value information. For example, any attempt to broadcast messages needs to have the sender authenticated, and so by nature all messages should be digitally signed with integrity checks, lest a malicious party strip the signature and replace it with its own when substituting a false message.” (2013) https://www.w3.org/2013/socialweb/papers/w3c.html

I just realized how pointless Linktree is when I have my own website where I could just make a page with all my links and if linktree explodes I don't care.

Then, depressingly, I just realized how reluctant people are to click on unknown URLs, and it's probably best to use linktree for name recognition...sigh...

So apparently apps are fully supported on for Mac This is great news!

But can someone explain why Safari can't do this on ?

Hi friends. I haven't posted about it here much but I've been job searching for a few months now! I have about 5 years of experience as an accessibility engineer, performing QA, development, and consultation work primarily on the web with a smattering of native iOS. I'm seeking full-time or contract opportunities, either remote or in the area. My resume is available upon request. Boosts appreciated! 🙂

I'm surprised (although not too surprised) by how good Google Meet is. Teams crashes all the time. Zoom feels clunky. Bluejeans is dead.

Is there a , or client for that supports a visual read marker? I.e., grays out everything you've already read?

Well then... this worked! I just dumped my old twitter archive* onto my mastodon server as another site/subdomain under https://twitterarchive.chrisalemany.ca

Now I can post live links to my old twitter posts, threads, etc. Awesome.

Proof that nothing truly goes away forever on the Internet ;=)

So @willmcgugan asked me to give the web service a bit of a shake-down. Now, I could have thrown a nice friendly "Hello, World" app at it, just to be gentle.

Or, you know, I could be kinda mean to it.

Go on, guess what I did.

Hello Fediverse friends! My partner, who has total 16 years of experience in software in an impressive array of various technologies, is looking for new opportunities. What he's looking for:

  • ( or or anything really)
  • 100% in Germany or hybrid in
  • German employment contract
  • meaningful work (no nonsense like web3, cars, or gambling)

Do you know anyone hiring for positions that would fulfill those expectations?

Add code to your site to prompt browsers using "Web Environment Integrity", to use Firefox instead ( chaos.social )

Since it seems #Google has decided to uni-laterally force through their new anti-#adblock #DRM euphemistically named "Web environment integrity", I decided to add a little bit of code to my website that blanks out the page and displays a protest message with a link to the firefox download page when you visit it from a browser...

@pre@boing.world avatar

There's a patch for Chromium to implement Google's "EnvironmentIntegrity" which is a power-grab to allow web-sites which are impossible to view on a free browser in case it does things like block adverts or translate or describe for the visually impaired.

More than a hundred comments on the commit in the repository: All negative, calling shame on this attempt to enclose the free web.

Quite right too. No single person is claiming to want the feature because no actual people do want it. Just the controlling brainwashing greedheads.

Firefox users will not have this code, but will that just end up meaning they don't get to view the corporate enclosed web?

State of the Web, circa 2023:

“Would you like to use the browser by Company X, or the browser by the company that survives on half-a-billion dollars a year from Company X, or the browser by the company that gets paid an estimated $20 billion a year by Company X even though it can survive without it?”

We desperately need a web browser by an independent organisation funded by EU taxpayer money and maintained for the common good.

Let me tell you the secret of the "Everything App".

It's real, it's not called X, and it's about 33 years old. It's called a Web Browser.

Despite a decade of walled gardens trying hard to ruin it, you can still do pretty much any task you need on the web.

You can even make websites into apps with Progressive Web Apps (two clicks on WordPress).

The everything app is old, and under siege daily. But it works, it's resilient, and it's magical.

A web server has zero (say it with me, “zero”) right to compel any client to reveal information about itself.

Unless we inscribe this as a fundamental and immutable tenet of the web, the web as we know it will cease to exist once some version of Google’s Web Environment Integrity proposal makes it past the corporate lackeys at the W3C.

What are the best green web hosters you know? 🌱🌎
By green I mean that they use renewable energy, for example, but maybe also that they adhere to sustainable business practices, invest in climate projects etc.
