Europeans, used to a European model of land usage, arrived in the Western Hemisphere and didn't recognize that the woodlands and grasslands of North America and the rain forests of South America were not wildernesses, but managed lands.

Dories On The Colorado River

Day 7 on the Colorado River down in the Grand Canyon we passed these 4 dories anchored near the banks of the river. After being on a large raft for a week I had a few opportunites to watch these smaller boats handle the raging waters of the Colorado River. Dories On The Colorado River This is an image of some dories that our raft passed on day 7 of our trip through the Grand Canyon. The Colorado River starts in the foreground and works towards the right before fading around a bend in the river. The dories are anchored on a sand bar that reaches out into the river. Their inhabitants were no where to be seen. The boats all very in color and have unique names like Roaring Springs, Lost Creek, Phantom and one other whose name is hidden from view. The walls of Grand Canyon National Park that are mostly vertical provide a background to this image.
