Managed to get a free copy of VMWare Fusion Pro that’s now available and following the “The Unofficial Fusion for Apple Silicon Companion Guide” was able to get Windows 11 running as a VM on my iMac. This guide is the best available and I would recommend starting with this first. (I didn’t and it cost me hours of faffing about.)
REGEDIT => HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search => New DWORD (32-bit) value
=> Name it BingSearchEnabled => Set it to 0
=> Type anything in the start menu and feel the wind in your digital hair as you fly through cyberspace at speeds unknown to lesser beings
@PCMag
Absolutely. When I have some time I'm gonna roll-back and stay there until EOS. You missed the very poor #accessibility#Windows 11 has - a dark theme which has almost zero contrast with the dark parts, smaller and harder to see notifications, narrower/disappearing scroll bars, etc. not to mention annoying stuff like round corners. Just the worst Windows UI ever - #Microsoft don't seem to understand "if it ain't broke then don't fix it". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BiJKq7ynms
Someone made a #Discord Messenger app for old versions of #Windows like Windows 2000 and Windows XP. This looks fascinating and cursed at the same time.
Was möchte man denn für Notizen verwenden, wenn man diese auf #Linux, #Android oder #Windows erstellen und bearbeiten möchte. Verteilt auf verschiedene Geräte sollen diese über #Syncthing werden.
For design inspiration, I'm trying to gather a list of desktop apps that are fun/enjoyable and don't have a corporate/enterprise feel to them.
Not games or streaming apps though. It feels like desktop app design hasn't kept pace with modern web app design but maybe my searches aren't using the right terms.
I realize this is subjective, but I'd still like more examples. 😁 Thx!
I can't believe a paid OS needs a tool like this. Here's a GUI tool called OFGB (Oh Frick Go Back) to remove all the ads in Windows 11. It's understandable if a free OS or app needs ad support, but this is just crazy https://github.com/xM4ddy/OFGB
I have been building browsers for 30 years now. First Opera and now Vivaldi. My estimate is that more than 1 billion have used one of my browsers or both. Have you?

Me: Inserts USB drive into laptop running #Windows
Windows: "There are errors detected on this drive. Scan and fix it now to prevent data loss."
Me: "Ok, I guess you can scan it."
Windows: Scans the drive
Also Windows: "No errors were detected on this drive."
Did I mention that people pay for this operating system? It cost €130 last time I checked. You'd be smarter to give €130 to a good cause or open source developers and use #Linux instead.
At this point, I think it would be insane of Microsoft to not start offering stock Windows on Xbox consoles.
Of the three modern consoles, the Xbox Series X|S has the smallest game library.
By running stock Windows, Xbox gamers would now have access to Steam, GOG.com, itch.io, Epic Game Store, and more.
They'd go from having the smallest library to the largest library – one that spans decades. They'd be able to play old bangers like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which never got a console release.
And hell, if Microsoft added trackpad support on the Xbox controller, Xbox gamers could even play the original Baldur’s Gate, which also never got a console release.
If Microsoft added the entire original Xbox and 360 library, Microsoft would have the best damn gaming platform on the planet.
That being said, I do expect Microsoft to take their experience from the #XboxOneS and start developing basically their reply to #Chromebook with a #ThinClient for #Microsoft365 products...
@nixCraft I'm surprised how big of a difference there is between personal desktop and gaming, I wonder how it looks compared to #Windows or #Mac stats?
I never liked the changes Microsoft made to the Start menu with #Windows 10 and 11. Now they want to add advertising, which, for now, you can disable, but still...
I've been using Start11 for years on my Windows machines to replace the start menu and task bar that comes with Windows. It's quite inexpensive, and it gives me a start menu and task bar as I like it. There are a ton of customizations.
If you don't like the Windows start menu and task bar, this is worth a look:
@gamingonlinux I recently bought an #Asus#Zephyrus G14, hoping to have one laptop for work, hobbies and light gaming (dual-boot). How disappointed I was to find that #Linux is almost unusable on this machine (fuck #Nvidia). I tried to adapt to #Windows because most of the software I need is available for Windows. But Windows is so disgusting, I don't understand how anyone can choose Windows. Linux desktop environments are simply superior to Windows (or #MacOS for that matter). Linux FTW.
