Sigh.

So, with that, I'll perk myself up (and hopefully you) with another dopey gif.

I can't believe it'll be a week from tomorrow!

Have a good evening, everyone!

Pools require constant maintenance and are a PITA. You did well in not having one.

PJ_Evans ,
@PJ_Evans@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff
We moved into a house that had a disused pool, the kind that's a redwood box with a sand bottom and a plastic liner. Liner had been removed at least a year earlier, judging by the weeds. We filled it with dirt (two dump-truck loads!) and used it as a container for our turtles. Added a couple of fruit trees and a patch of grass. It was more useful that way than if it were a pool.

Social media disappointments:

  1. Journalists are still actively participating at exTwitter, thereby actively supporting Musk, who is helping extremists bring down democracy and, by extension, a free press.

  2. Reddit got away with stomping its volunteer moderators and users, and its execs are cashing in on an IPO that in a more just world would have flopped.

    Not only that, but most of us pay into Social Security (and Medicare) on 100% of our income. Raise the income cap to 300K, or remove it entirely!

    Top media company CEO pay in 2023:

    Disney: $31.6M
    Warner Bros: $49.7M
    Netflix: $49.8M & $40.1M
    Comcast: $35.5M
    Paramount: $31.3M

    Remember when execs claimed they couldn't afford to pay writers and actors more during the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike?

    That was pure fiction.

    @rbreich
    That was part of why the unions were getting so much support.

    Incoming! A severe G4 Geomagnetic Storm is expected to arrive around 02:00 UTC Friday night / Saturday morning.

    At least 5 Coronal Mass Ejections took place over the past 24 hours, directed towards Earth. These originated from a large and magnetically complex sunspot cluster (NOAA region 3664).

    There is potential for disruption of communications, the electric power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations.

    And bright auroras as far south as Alabama!

    That sunspot group is about the same size, they think, as the one Carrington saw.

    ...At 2:14 p.m., Trump walks in, entourage in tow.

    Boris Epshteyn just handed a piece of paper with a photo on it to Kaitlan Collins.

    I thought he maybe said "Conway" to her, but I'm not exactly sure.

    The trial isn't the place for that, and Blanche knows it. It's so transparently poor as an argument.
