I live in a major city so I have many choices, but realistically it works for any nearby city with hip smaller bands that you like. Not everything is great but it's pretty easy to dial in your tastes by venue and labels. If you aren't getting enough to check with that, just add another city's venues. See who's playing & check them out on bandcamp/youtube/etc...then go see them live. Lee's Place is dope, I caught several shows there when I contracting, but that was 7-8 years ago

This is incredibly far from reality. There is a massive Mexican American population in Chicago. If you think it’s white people in sombreros, you are very much mistaken. This comment hurt more than it should.

It has to do with minorities coming to America, finding some success and wondering why the black community can’t seem to break through. This line of rationale is over simplifying the long standing history of racism and oppression that has kept minorities down for generations in the US. All minorities in the US face an uphill battle in a sense, but folks who migrated more recently haven’t experienced it for generations (esp like the pre-civil rights gens did). The playing field is also improving, although still has a way to go, and more recent immigrants are in a better place to possibly find some degree of success. This makes some people, who don’t take the history into account, ask, “I did it, why can’t you?” …which is the republican mentality

The US can do a major part by simply not finding it! That’s why it’s a no brainer. When you start funding and taking sides it gets complicated; this is rather clear, that’s why.
