What’s in there? I decided we had to find out. This region has no natural caves, they were all created during WWI, as points of defense, for look-outs and to serve as battlements. This was possibly used for canons(?), with windows in different directions. (See next pics.) There are miles of tunnels under the mountains here, connecting different points.
Picos de Europa - day 4/5 Evening sunset and morning cloud inversion
At the Refugio Collado Jermoso conditions were almost perfect for enjoying the beautiful sunset and stunning early morning cloud inversions. This is a beautiful mountain refuge if you ever get the opportunity to stay here.
I’m filling in a little missing section of the Pacific Crest Trail between Lolo Pass and somewhere north of Lost Lake near Mount Hood this weekend. Will be exploring the area around the lake after completing the section Saturday morning. I saw my now good friend Prospector again, who’s hiking SOBO (south bound) on the PCT. Had met him weeks ago in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.
Last Sunday was a beautiful moody day to take photos at Eltz Castle. I had this spot on my bucket list for a long time and i am glad that it has finally happened.
The first photo is the view from near my camp on Cloudy Pass. Today has been incredible but tough. Hiked 20 miles with 6400’ elevation gain. This is not like the PCT, it’s rough trails that go straight up for hours. But i’m so happy, I wanted an epic long weekend and Glacier Peak Wilderness is providing that in spades so far.
This is one of my favorite shots from a recent photo shoot. In the center at the end is the Starorobocinski Wierch, the highest peak in the Western Tatras in Poland.

Just donated $100 to the amazing Organic Maps project: Trackerless, fully offline, OSM based, open source mapping for Android/iOS. Great UX & routing, super fast & good coverage even of hiking paths, elevation lines & public transport layers...
From their website: "Organic Maps is one of a few applications nowadays that supports 100% of features without an active Internet connection. Install Organic Maps, download maps, throw away your SIM card (by the way, your operator constantly tracks you), and go for a weeklong trip on a single battery charge without any byte sent to the network."
